브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 국민의힘 대선 경선 당시 홍준표 후보 캠프에서 '경제 정책통'으로 활동한 이병태 전 카이스트 교수가 이재명 더불어민주당 대선 후보 캠프에 합류했다.
이 전 교수는 12일 자신의 페이스북에 "이재명 캠프에 조인한다. 주류 경제학적 이야기를 이재명 후보에게 전하고자 한다"고 밝혔다.
이 전 교수는 "홍의 꿈이 좌절되는 순간 저는 '이제 나라 걱정 접고 정년 퇴임한 은퇴자의 삶을 살아야겠구나'하고 일본 여행을 했다"며 "하지만 이틀 전부터 제게 생각하지 못한 제안들이 들어와서 고민의 시간이 시작됐다"고 말했다.
이어 "제가 자유계약(FA) 선수가 되었다고 생각했는지 이재명, 이준석 대표 측이 적극적으로 도움을 청해왔다"면서 "의외로 이재명 캠프가 문재인 정부와는 다른 통합과 정통 경제 원칙에 입각한 경제 운영을 심각하게 고민하고 있다는 설득을 계속해왔고 제가 주장했던 규제 개혁과 성장 복원에 기여할 공간이 있다는 말씀을 해 왔다"고 설명했다.
이 전 교수는 "저를 아끼는 분들 중에 호랑이 굴에 가서 '문재인 2'를 막는 일을 하라는 조언을 주시는 분들도 많았다"며 "국힘이 보여준 막장 드라마가 저의 선택에 영향을 준 것도 사실"이라고 했다.
그는 "제가 김문수 후보에 힘을 보탤 수 없는 가장 큰 이유는 부정선거 음모론"이라며 "저는 이런 반지성 지도자를 수용할 수도 없고 경선과정이 공정한 게임이 아니었기에 그의 정통성도 수용하기 어렵다. 그의 노동운동적인 경제관도 그러하다"고 했다.
그러면서 "호랑이 굴에 들어가서 상처뿐인 상태로 버려지더라도 경제적 자유를 위한 마지막 외침을 해 보고 제 사회적 기여를 끝내고자 한다"고 덧붙였다.
