충남 금산군이 세계적인 축제로 도약하기 위한 발판을 미국 현지에서 다졌다. 박범인 금산군수는 지난 5월 13일부터 18일까지 6일간 미국 테네시주 멤피스시에서 열린 ‘멤피스 인 메이(Memphis in May)’ 축제에 공식 초청을 받아 참석, 금산세계인삼축제의 세계화 가능성을 넓혔다.
19일 군청 브리핑룸에서 열린 기자회견에서 박 군수는 “멤피스 인 메이 축제는 세계 각국의 문화가 교차하는 글로벌 문화의 장”이라며 “이번 방문은 금산인삼과 금산세계인삼축제를 세계무대에 알리는 결정적인 계기가 됐다”고 소감을 밝혔다.
이번 방문은 정강환 세계축제협회 아시아지부 회장의 추천으로, 맥 위버 멤피스 인 메이 국제축제재단 회장의 초청에 따라 성사됐다.
박 군수는 금산군 대표단과 함께 개막식에 공식 참석하고, 금산문화관광축제재단과 멤피스 인 메이 국제축제재단 간 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다. 또한 멤피스 한인회와의 협약도 병행해 향후 민간 교류 확대의 발판도 함께 마련했다.
