방문 첫날인 16일 나라시를 찾은 이동협 의장은 나카가와 겐 나라시장을 예방한 자리에서 명예시민증을 수여받았다. 이어서 자매결연 55주년 기념 사진전과 전통문화공연을 관람하며 양 도시의 깊은 유대감을 확인했다. 이후 방문단은 기모토 가즈노리 오바마시장을 접견하고 오사카 엑스포를 시찰하는 등 활발한 교류 활동을 이어갔다.
