서산시, 2025 생물다양성 업무 유공 환경부장관 표창 수상

충남 서산시가 환경부가 주관하는 '2025년 생물다양성 업무 유공 우수기관'으로 선정되어 환경부장관 표창을 수상하는 영예를 안았다. 

시는 5월 22일 '생물다양성의 날'을 맞아 생물자원의 보호 및 관리 등 환경 보전에 기여한 공로를 인정받아 이번 표창을 수상했다고 밝혔다. 이는 서산시가 그동안 자연환경 보호와 생물다양성 보전을 위해 꾸준히 노력해 온 결과로 평가받고 있다.

시는 우리 지역 생태계의 건강성을 회복하고 생물자원을 보호하기 위해 다양한 활동을 펼쳐 왔다. 특히 2020년부터 지난해까지 동자개, 메기 등 지역 하천에 서식하는 토종 어류 치어 총 5만 5천여 마리를 방류하여 수생태계 복원에 적극적으로 나섰다.

또한 생태계를 교란하는 외래 생물 퇴치에도 행정력을 집중하고 있다. 지난해 9월에는 생태계 교란 어종인 큰입배스와 블루길을 제거하기 위한 낚시대회를 개최하여 시민들의 환경 보전 참여 독려 및 2020년부터는 생태계 교란 식물인 가시박 약 6천5백㎡를 지속적으로 제거하며 생태계 교란 생물 퇴치에 앞장서고 있다.

이 밖에도 서산시는 중앙호수공원, 석남천 주변, 그리고 특정 도서지역에서 매년 생태 보전을 위한 정화 활동과 자연 훼손 예방 순찰을 꾸준히 시행하여 쾌적하고 건강한 생태 환경을 유지하는 데 힘쓰고 있으며. 특히 시가 추진한 도시생태현황지도 3단계 용역은 생태자원 정보 공유와 환경 정보 통합 관리에 크게 기여했다는 점에서 높은 평가를 받았다.
