【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=한국원자력환경공단(이사장 조성돈)이 방사성폐기물 관리 및 기술표준 강화를 위해 제주대학교, 대한전기협회와 각각 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다.

공단은 5월 21일부터 22일까지 제주에서 진행된 이번 협약을 통해 학계 및 산업계와의 협력 기반을 넓히고, 관련 분야의 전문성과 실효성 제고에 나섰다.
21일에는 제주대학교(총장 김일환)와 손잡고 기술자료 공유, 교육 및 훈련 프로그램 공동 운영, 연구시설 및 장비의 공동 활용 등을 골자로 한 협약을 체결했다. 공단은 이를 통해 중·저준위 방사성폐기물 관리 역량을 한층 끌어올릴 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.
이어 22일에는 전력산업 기술기준(Korea Electric Power Industry Code, KEPIC)의 운영기관인 대한전기협회(상근부회장 노용호)와 업무협약을 맺고, 공동연구 수행, 기술표준화 협력, 워크숍 공동 개최 등을 추진하기로 합의했다. 이번 협약은 방사성폐기물 관련 기술기준의 적용성과 실효성을 높이는 데 기여할 전망이다.
공단은 앞으로 두 기관과의 긴밀한 협의를 통해 기술기준 연계, 정책 기반 강화, 인력 양성 등 다양한 협력 과제를 도출하고, 실행 가능성에 대한 검토를 지속해 나갈 방침이다.
조성돈 이사장은 “이번 MOU는 공단의 전문성 강화뿐 아니라 산학 및 산업계와의 협력 기반 확대에 있어 중요한 전환점”이라며 “앞으로도 다양한 기관들과 기술 네트워크를 구축해 방사성폐기물 관리의 공공성과 실효성을 함께 높여가겠다”고 말했다.
