이주호 대통령 권한대행 부총리 겸 교육부장관이 26일 "차기 정부서 대미 통상 협의가 연속성 있게 진행될 수 있도록 철저히 준비해야 한다"고 강조했다.
이 권한대행은 이날 오전 서울 종로구 정부서울청사에서 열린 경제안보전략 간담회에서 관련 부처에 이같이 당부했다. 이 대행과 참석자들은 이 자리에서 한·미 통상 협의 진행사항 등을 점검했다.
그러면서 지난 20~22일 미국 워싱턴 DC에서 진행된 미국 무역대표부(USTR)와의 관세 조치 관련 2차 기술협의에 대해 "기술협의에서 파악된 미 측 관심사항에 대해 관계 부처 간 긴밀한 공조를 통해 우리측 입장을 면밀히 검토해야 한다"며 "이번 협의 결과와 향후 대미 대응방향에 대해선 국회와 지속 소통해야 한다"고 당부했다.
현재 정부는 상호관세 유예기간이 끝나는 오는 7월 8일까지 '줄라이 패키지(July Package)' 마련을 목표로 하고 있다.
앞서 지난 16일 제주에서 열린 아시아태평양경제협력체(APEC) 통상장관회의에서 한·미는 균형무역·비관세조치·경제안보·디지털교역·원산지·상업적 고려 등 6개 분야 관련 기술협의를 진행하기로 한 바 있다.
아직 한·미 간 3차 기술 협의 일정은 공개되지 않은 가운데 상호관세 유예 종료일까지 협의가 마무리되지 않을 시 한국은 미국이 정했던 현 10% 기본관세에 15% 상호관세를 더한 총 25% 관세를 내야 한다.
