【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=한국원자력환경공단(이사장 조성돈)이 5월 한 달간 경주시 문무대왕면 공설시장에서 농수산물 소비촉진 행사를 개최하며 방폐장 주변지역의 지역경제 활성화에 앞장서고 있다.

이번 행사는 공단이 문무대왕면 발전협의회(회장 김상희)와 공동 주관하여, 5일장 장날을 활용해 하루 3만원 이상 농수산물을 구입한 고객 300명에게 1만원 상당의 축산물 교환권을 증정하는 방식으로 운영된다.
행사 현장에서는 공단과 지역협의회 관계자들이 함께 참여해 고물가로 위축된 소비심리를 회복하고 전통시장 이용을 독려하는 홍보 활동을 전개하고 있다. 또한, 솜사탕 나눔, 마술쇼 등 다양한 부대행사도 함께 진행돼 시장을 찾은 방문객들의 호응을 얻고 있다.
이 사업은 중·저준위 방사성폐기물 반입 시 발생하는 ‘반입수수료’를 재원으로 추진되는 것으로, 공단은 해당 수수료를 활용해 방폐장 주변지역 주민들의 삶의 질을 높이고 지역사회와 상생하기 위한 다양한 사업들을 지속해오고 있다.
김상희 문무대왕면 발전협의회 회장은 “앞으로도 지역 주민들의 복리 증진과 공동체 활성화를 위한 꼭 필요한 사업들을 발굴해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.
공단은 이번 소비촉진 행사 외에도 ▲문무문화제, 감포 참가자미 축제 등 지역행사 지원 ▲양남면 로컬푸드 무료급식소 운영 ▲어르신 반찬 배달 ▲김장김치 지원사업 ▲출산 산모 대상 축하 선물 제공사업 등 다양한 지역 밀착형 복지·경제사업을 펼치고 있다.
조성돈 공단 이사장은 “방폐장 유치 지역 주민들이 실질적인 지원과 혜택을 체감할 수 있도록 앞으로도 지역경제 활성화와 취약계층 보호에 힘쓰겠다”고 강조했다.

Korea Radioactive Waste Agency (Chairman Cho Seong-don) is leading the way in revitalizing the local economy around the radioactive waste storage facility by holding an agricultural and marine product consumption promotion event at the Munmu-daewang-myeon Public Market in Gyeongju for the month of May.
This event is jointly hosted by the agency and the Munmu-daewang-myeon Development Council (Chairman Kim Sang-hee), and is operated by giving 10,000 won worth of livestock product exchange vouchers to 300 customers who purchase more than 30,000 won worth of agricultural and marine products on the 5-day market day.
At the event, the agency and local council officials are participating together to promote the use of traditional markets and restore consumer sentiment that has been dampened by high prices. In addition, various side events such as cotton candy sharing and magic shows are also held, receiving a positive response from visitors to the market.
