천혜의 자연환경을 자랑하는 충남 태안군에서 생물다양성의 체계적인 보존과 연구를 위한 중요한 발걸음을 시작했다.
지난 26일 태안군가족공감센터에서 세계생물다양성정보기구(GBIF) 한국사무국인 한국생물다양성정보기구(KBIF)의 ‘제37차 국가생물다양성기관연합 공동학술조사 발대식’이 성황리에 개최되었다.
이날 발대식에는 국가생물다양성기관연합 소속 전문가 및 관계자, 가세로 군수를 비롯한 군 관계자 등 70여 명이 참석했다. 이번 공동학술조사는 국가생물다양성기관연합 66개 회원기관이 참여하여 전국을 10개 권역으로 나누고 10년 주기로 생물 정보를 수집해 생물상 변화를 조사하는 대규모 프로젝트다. 국내 생물다양성의 발굴·확보와 정보 생산 및 활용 체계 마련을 목표로 한다.
특히 이번 제37차 조사는 5월 26일부터 30일까지 4박 5일간 태안군 일원에서 진행되며, 국립중앙과학관, 국립생태원, 국립수목원, 대학 등 국공립 및 사립기관 소속 생물다양성 전문가들이 태안지역의 생물 및 지질을 집중적으로 조사할 예정이다.
태안군은 천연기념물인 신두사구를 비롯해 22개의 해수욕장, 수목원, 솔향기길 등 풍부한 자연 자원을 보유하고 있어 생물 다양도 및 생명 정보 확보에 대한 기대가 높다. 비트와 소금 등 고유 자원을 활용한 태안해양치유센터 개관을 앞두고 있어 힐링과 치유의 도시로서의 면모도 갖추고 있다.
군 관계자는 “대한민국의 정원이자 천혜의 생태 보고인 태안에서 의미 있는 학술조사가 진행되어 매우 기쁘게 생각한다”며 “조사가 원활하게 진행될 수 있도록 군 차원의 적극적인 협조를 아끼지 않겠다”고 밝혔다.
이번 조사를 통해 수집된 정보는 국립중앙과학관이 운영하는 국가자연사연구정보시스템(NARIS) 누리집 및 세계생물다양성정보기구 포털에서도 확인 가능하다. 이번 조사를 통해 태안의 풍부한 생물 자원 가치가 재조명될 것으로 기대된다.
