충남 보령시가 충남도 장애인체전 출전 선수들의 사기 진작과 현장 격려를 위해 발벗고 나섰다.
시는 김동일 시장을 포함한 방문단 28명이 지난 29일 ‘제31회 충청남도 장애인체육대회’가 열리는 서산시를 찾아 경기장을 직접 찾았다고 30일 밝혔다.
이날 방문단은 배구 등 5개 종목의 경기장을 돌며 선수들의 경기를 관람하고 현장에서 응원의 메시지를 전했다.
김 시장은 “이번 대회를 위해 열정을 가지고 연습해주신 선수단 여러분께 깊은 감사의 말씀을 드린다”며, “보령시 대표선수로서 자긍심을 갖고 후회 없이 경기에 임해주시길 바란다”고 밝혔다.
이번 제31회 충남도장애인체육대회는 5월 29일부터 31일까지 3일간 서산시 일원에서 열리고 있다. 보령시는 22개 전체 종목 가운데 17개 종목에 선수단을 꾸려 총 422명이 출전, 그동안 갈고닦은 실력을 선보이고 있다.
시는 선수단의 사기와 컨디션 유지를 위해 현장 지원도 아끼지 않고 있다. 장진원 부시장을 중심으로 시청 34개 부서 공무원 150여 명이 종목별 경기장을 찾아 선수단을 격려하며 뒷받침에 나섰다.
보령시 체육회 관계자는 “장애인 체육은 지역 공동체와 더불어 포용의 가치를 확산시키는 중요한 역할을 한다”며 “선수들이 안전하고 만족스럽게 대회를 마칠 수 있도록 끝까지 최선을 다하겠”고 전했다.
보령시는 이번 대회를 계기로 장애인 체육 인프라 확충과 지역 체육 저변 확대에도 더욱 박차를 가한다는 계획이다.
