【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자= 동국대학교 WISE캠퍼스 조경·정원디자인학부 동문들이 모교 발전을 위해 뜻을 모았다. 지난 6월 4일 오후 2시, 동문들은 경주 백주년기념관 화백홀에서 조경학과 발전기금 2,600만 원을 전달했다.

이번 기부는 ▲입학 30주년을 맞은 95학번 동기회가 1,000만 원, ▲입학 40주년인 85학번 동기회가 1,000만 원, ▲입학 50주년을 맞은 75학번 동기회가 600만 원을 각각 기탁해 이뤄졌다.
이날 기금 전달식에는 이두현 조경학과 총동창회장, 김응주 부회장, 85학번 이상곤 회장과 이승현 총무, 95학번 권용일 대표와 박주용 동문이 참석해 자리를 빛냈다.
이두현 총동창회장은 “오늘의 이 자리는 선후배 간 끈끈한 유대와 학교의 지속적인 지원 덕분에 가능했다”며 “이 아름다운 기부 문화를 앞으로도 잘 이어갈 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 밝혔다.
85학번 대표 이상곤 회장은 “입학 40주년을 맞아 발전하는 학교의 모습을 보니 감회가 깊다”며 “앞으로도 학교와 동문 사회를 위해 힘을 보태겠다”고 전했다.
95학번 권용일 대표는 “이번 기금은 동기들이 십시일반 정성을 모아 마련한 것”이라며 “후배들이 이 전통을 이어가도록 계속해서 독려하겠다”고 말했다.
류완하 동국대 WISE캠퍼스 총장은 “어려운 시기에도 후배들을 위해 큰 정성을 모아주셔서 감사하다”며 “기탁해주신 기금은 학교 발전과 후배들을 위한 뜻깊은 용도로 소중히 사용하겠다”고 감사를 표했다.
한편, 동국대 WISE캠퍼스 조경·정원디자인학부는 1974년 서울캠퍼스 농림대학 내 설치된 이후, 1980년 경주로 이전해 지금까지 명성을 이어오고 있다.
특히, 2010년부터는 입학 30주년을 맞이한 동문들이 장학 기금을 꾸준히 전달해 오고 있으며, 2024년 기준 94학번까지 총 2억 1,500만 원의 발전기금이 기탁됐다.
