President Lee Jae-myung accepted the resignation of Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs Oh Kwang-soo, who is suspected of real estate and loans under false pretenses, the presidential office reported on the 13th. This is the first case of a high-ranking official being dismissed since the launch of the new government.
At a briefing at the presidential office in Yongsan that morning, Spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung said, "Senior Secretary Oh tendered his resignation to President Lee last night," and "President Lee accepted the resignation, fully considering the importance of the Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs, who is in charge of establishing public service discipline and verifying personnel."
She added, "We plan to appoint the next Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs as soon as possible, as someone who deeply understands President Lee's will for judicial reform and his philosophy of state administration and is in line with it."
Chief Oh, who was appointed on the 8th along with Senior Secretary for Political Affairs Woo Sang-ho and Senior Secretary for Public Relations Lee Gyu-yeon, was embroiled in controversy over his morality after his appointment due to a series of issues related to his assets, including allegations that he managed his wife's real estate in another person's name through a friend while he was a prosecutor and received a loan worth 1 billion won in another person's name in 2007.
In relation to this, Seoul City Council member Lee Jong-bae, a member of the People's Power Party, filed a complaint against Chief Oh with the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office on the 12th on charges of violating the Financial Transaction Real-Name Act, fraud, tax evasion punishment law, and obstruction of business by hierarchy.
