경기북부보훈지청(지청장 손순욱)이 추진하는 '4인 5각 함께 걸어 보훈' 프로젝트가 6월 호국보훈의 달을 맞아 동두천시 자유수호평화박물관에서 의미 있는 활동을 펼쳤다.
지난 11일(수) 경기북부보훈지청 직원들은 동두천시 소요산 아래 위치한 자유수호평화박물관을 방문해 UN군 참전용사들의 희생과 헌신에 대한 해설을 듣고, 방문객들에게 국가보훈부의 '모두의 보훈' 사업을 홍보했다.

'4인 5각 함께 걸어 보훈'은 경기북부보훈지청이 올해 2월부터 12월까지 1년간 진행하는 특별 프로젝트다.
직원 4명이 한 조를 이뤄 매달 관할 11개 시군 중 한 곳의 현충시설을 방문하고, 국가보훈부 사업 홍보와 직원 소통 활동을 자유롭게 펼치는 것이 특징이다.
지난 4개월간 직원들은 의정부시, 고양시, 파주시, 가평군을 차례로 방문했으며, 6월에는 동두천시의 자유수호평화박물관을 찾았다.
방문지인 자유수호평화박물관(동두천시 평화로2910번길 96-63)은 6·25 전쟁에서 자유와 평화를 수호하기 위해 희생한 분들의 뜻을 기리고, 전쟁의 교훈을 되새기며 유엔 참전국과의 우호 증진을 위해 건립됐다.
박물관에는 참전 22개국 유엔군의 활약상과 관련된 유물 및 자료가 전시되어 있어 6·25 전쟁의 역사적 의미를 되돌아볼 수 있다.
이날 경기북부보훈지청 직원들은 박물관의 각종 체험활동을 영상으로 촬영해 경기북부보훈지청 인스타그램에 게시하며, 6월 호국보훈의 달을 계기로 더 많은 국민들이 현충시설을 방문해 줄 것을 당부했다.
이번 활동에 참여한 경기북부제대군인지원센터 신진희 팀장은 "당연하게 누리고 있던 자유와 평화를 다시 한번 생각해 보는 시간이 되었다"며 "마침 월남 참전유공자분께서 해설을 해주셔서 더욱 뜻깊게 듣고 느낄 수 있었다"고 소감을 밝혔다.
신 팀장은 또 "6월 호국보훈의 달을 지내며 많은 분의 고귀한 희생으로 일구어낸 소중하고 감사한 평화를 다음 세대에 잘 전달해야 하겠다는 생각도 하게 되었다"고 덧붙였다.

경기북부보훈지청은 '4인 5각 함께 걸어 보훈' 프로젝트를 통해 국민들이 주변 현충시설의 의미를 되새기기를 기대한다고 밝혔다.
다음 달인 7월에는 국가수호와 독립운동 관련 자료를 한 번에 관람할 수 있는 양평군 지평의병·지평리전투기념관을 방문할 예정이다.
