브레이크뉴스 정민우 기자= KT는 초고속인터넷 천만 고객 달성을 맞아 차세대 기가 이더넷 스위치(New 5G-GES)를 도입한다고 19일 밝혔다.
차세대 기가 이더넷 스위치(New 5G-GES, 5Gbps-GiGA Ethernet Switch)는 4 pair UTP(Unshielded Twisted Pair, 8 가닥 꼬임 케이블)로 인터넷 속도 최대 5Gbps까지 제공이 가능한 네트워크 장치다.
차세대 기가 이더넷 스위치는 주로 아파트 단자함에 설치돼 UTP 케이블을 통해 가정까지 초고속인터넷 서비스를 제공한다. UTP 케이블은 플라스틱으로 감싸 전류가 통하지 않게 만든 선으로, 일반 전화선이나 랜(LAN, 근거리 통신망)에 주로 사용된다.
KT는 오는 23일부터 인천, 부산, 대구지역 구축 아파트에 신규장비를 우선 도입해 1Gbps 서비스를 시범적으로 제공하고, 7월부터 전국으로 대상을 확대할 예정이다.
