대통령실이 23일 "이재명 대통령이 오는 24~25일 네덜란드 헤이그 나토(NATO·북대서양조약기구) 정상회의에 불참하는 가운데 대참자를 보낼지 여부를 논의 중"이라고 전했다.
강유정 대통령실 대변인은 이날 서면브리핑에서 "대통령은 취임 후 산적한 국정 현안에도 불구 이번 나토 정상회의 참석을 최대한 적극 검토해 왔다"며 "그러나 여러 국내 현안·중동 사태로 인한 불확실성 등을 종합 고려해 도저히 직접 참석할 수 없는 상황이라 판단했다"고 전했다.
그러면서 "정부 인사 대참 문제는 나토 측과 협의 예정"이라고 덧붙였다.
이날 나토가 공개한 정상회의 일정표에 따르면 25일 오후 2시 30분 마르크 뤼터 사무총장·도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령·한국·일본·호주·뉴질랜드 등 인도·태평양 파트너 4개국(IP4) 간 회의가 열릴 예정이다. 이 일정은 당초 공개 초안엔 없었으나 전날 오전 추가됐다.
