전북자치도 익산시가 유니세프 한국위원회로부터 '아동친화도시 상위단계 인증'을 획득했다.
익산시는 지난 2021년 아동친화도시 최초 인증을 받은 뒤 권리 증진을 시정 핵심과제로 삼아 제도적 기반 마련과 실천에 집중해 왔으며 기존 인증에서 더 높은 수준으로 고도화된 아동친화도시에 주어지는 상위단계 인증을 받았다고 25일 밝혔다.
상위단계 인증은 유니세프가 제시한 6대 아동 친화 영역과 5대 평가 항목을 기준으로 아동의 권리 실현을 위한 정책과 운영 체계 등을 종합 평가해 수여된다.
이번 상위단계 인증은 2029년 6월 19일까지다.
익산시는 아동정책의 범위를 확대하는 등 아동의 권리가 일상에서 실현되는 아동친화적 도시 환경을 조성한다는 방침이다.
아동 친화 도시는 유엔 아동권리협약을 기반으로 아동의 권리가 존중받고 온전히 실현되기 위한 환경이 조성된 자치단체를 말하며 유엔 산하 기구인 유니세프가 인증하고 4년마다 인증한다.
