이재명 대통령이 25일 "경제가 안정되고 국민이 안심하며 안전한 삶을 살아갈 수 있도록 한반도 평화 체계를 굳건히 구축해나갈 것을 다짐한다"고 밝혔다.
이 대통령은 이날 오전 6·25 전쟁 75주년을 맞아 페이스북에 글을 올려 "평화가 곧 경제이자 국민 생존과 직결되는 시대"라며 이같이 적었다.
또 "대한민국 자유·평화를 지키고자 피·땀을 흘린 모든 분께 다시 한번 깊은 존경·감사 마음을 전한다"며 "오늘의 대한민국은 전장을 지킨 국군 장병·참전용사·유가족·전쟁 상처를 감내하며 살아오신 국민 모두의 희생·헌신이 있었기에 가능했다"고 했다.
그러면서 "전쟁은 우리 삶을 송두리째 흔들었다. 수많은 이들이 가족을 잃고 고향을 떠나야 했으며 평온했던 삶이 무참히 파괴됐다"며 "그럼에도 우리는 다시 일어나 희망을 품었고, 상처를 딛고 더 나은 내일을 향해 나아갔다"고 했다.
또 "전쟁이 끝난 1953년 1인당 국민소득 67달러에 불과했던 나라가 이제는 국민소득 3만6천달러를 넘나드는 세계 10위권 경제 강국으로 발돋움했다"며 "OECD 출범 이후 최초로 대표적 원조 수혜국에서 원조 공여국으로 전환, 세계 개발도상국 롤모델로 평가받고 있다"고 했다.
이어 "경제성장과 더불어 교육·보건·과학기술·문화 등에서 괄목할 발전을 이뤘다"며 "세계 10위 경제력과 세계 5위 군사력을 갖추며 K-컬처로 세계 문화를 선도하고 있다"고 했다.
더불어 "대한민국을 지키기 위해 특별한 희생을 치른 분들께 충분한 보상·예우를 다하지 못했다는 아쉬움을 느낀다"며 "앞으로 더 많은 지원이 이어질 수 있도록 다양한 방법을 모색할 것"이라고 했다.
이 대통령은 "전쟁을 다시 겪을 일 없는 나라를 만드는 게 수많은 이들 희생·헌신에 올바로 응답하는 길"이라며 "군사력에만 의존해 국가를 지키는 시대는 지났다"고 했다.
또 "싸워서 이기는 것보다 싸우지 않고 이기는 게 더 중요하다"며 "가장 확실한 안보는 싸울 필요가 없는 상태 즉 평화를 만드는 것"이라고 했다.
