이번 ‘급식 행복 드림 지원사업’은 방폐물 반입 수수료를 재원으로 하는 관리사업자 지원사업의 일환으로, 양북 지역 아동의 건강한 성장을 돕고 지역 복지를 실질적으로 강화하기 위한 취지로 추진된다.
공단은 문무대왕면 발전협의회(회장 김상희)와 양북초·중학교(교장 조재형)와 협의를 거쳐 학기 중에는 특식을, 방학 중에는 우유를 지원하는 방식으로 사업을 운영할 계획이다.
김상희 회장은 “성장기 학생들이 균형 잡힌 영양을 섭취하고, 건강한 학교생활을 통해 지역 인재로 자라날 수 있도록 다양한 사업을 지속적으로 발굴하겠다”고 밝혔다.
한국원자력환경공단은 급식 지원 외에도 방폐장 주변지역의 생활 복지 및 경제 활성화를 위한 다채로운 사업을 추진 중이다. 지난 5월에는 문무대왕면 전통시장과 연계한 축산물 교환권 증정 이벤트를 실시했으며, 감포 가자미 축제와 문무문화제 등 지역 대표 행사 육성에도 나서고 있다.
양남면에서는 지역 농수산물을 활용해 전통시장 장날마다 월 평균 4회 이상 어르신 무료급식소를 운영하고 있으며, 동경주 지역에서 생산된 배추로 김장을 담가 경주지역 복지시설 50개소에 전달하는 ‘김장 지원사업’도 시행 중이다.
또한, 경주지역 출산 가정을 대상으로 미역, 건어물 등으로 구성된 ‘출산축하 선물세트’를 900여 명에게 지원하며, 출산장려 분위기 확산에도 기여하고 있다.
조성돈 이사장은 “주민들이 방폐장 유치에 따른 실질적 혜택을 체감할 수 있도록, 앞으로도 생활 밀착형·맞춤형 복지사업을 꾸준히 확대해 나가겠다”고 말했다.
