충남 논산시(시장 백성현)가 블루베리 산업 경쟁력 확보를 위한 새로운 시도에 나섰다.
시는 논산시블루베리연구회(회장 이병주), 광석농협(조합장 장준호)과 손잡고 ‘광석농협 블루베리 공동선별 출하회(이하 공선회)’를 정식 출범시키고 본격적인 공동선별과 출하 작업에 돌입했다고 27일 밝혔다.
이번 공선회 결성은 지역 블루베리 산업의 구조적 한계를 극복하고, 고품질·고수익 체계를 구축하기 위한 전략적 선택이다. 산지유통의 핵심인 공동선별 시스템을 통해 블루베리의 품질을 균일화하고, 통합 마케팅으로 시장 신뢰도를 높이는 동시에 농가의 유통 부담도 덜 수 있다는 점에서 주목된다.
공선회는 현재 28개 농가가 참여하고 있으며, 총 32톤의 블루베리를 선별해 약 12억 원의 매출을 달성하는 성과를 거뒀다. 이는 단순한 유통 개선을 넘어, 지역 농업 전체의 체질을 바꾸는 의미 있는 사례로 평가된다.

현재 논산시에서는 80여 농가가 총 28헥타르 면적에서 블루베리를 재배하고 있으며, 지난해 10월 출범한 논산시블루베리연구회는 재배 기술 공유, 병해충 대응, 판로 확대 등 다양한 분야에서 지역 농가를 지원해오고 있다.
시 관계자는 “농가 소득 증대와 지역 경제 활성화를 위해 고품질 재배기술 도입과 현장 지도 등 다양한 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 밝혔다.
