충남 예산군이 유니세프아동친화도시 추진 지방정부협의회 부회장 도시로서의 첫 국제 행보에 나선다.
군은 유니세프 한국위원회와 함께 6월 30일부터 7월 3일까지 몽골 울란바토르 일대에서 진행되는 국제교류 방문 일정에 참여한다고 30일 밝혔다.
이번 방문은 아동친화도시 간 글로벌 연대를 강화하고, 기후위기에 대응하는 교육 인프라 구축 사례를 공유하기 위해 마련됐다.
대표단은 국내 유니세프아동친화도시 협의회 가입 도시 중 주요 역할을 맡고 있는 도시들로 구성됐다. 예산군(부회장도시)을 비롯해 홍성군(회장도시), 과천시(감사도시), 시흥시(고문도시) 지자체장이 함께하며, 유니세프 한국위원회 본부장도 동행한다.
교류단은 몽골 유니세프 사무소와의 정책 협의를 시작으로, 현지에서 추진 중인 ‘그린스쿨 프로그램’ 수혜학교인 울란바토르의 74번 및 28번 학교를 찾아 교육 환경과 아동 권리 증진 방안에 대해 실질적인 현장 교류에 나선다.
특히 태양광 발전 시스템 등 기후위기 대응 설비를 직접 살펴보고, 나무 심기 등 기후행동 캠페인에도 참여해 지속가능한 아동 성장 환경 조성을 위한 공동 책임을 실천할 계획이다.
예산군으로서는 이번 국제 방문이 유니세프 협의회 부회장도시로 지정된 이후 처음으로 참여하는 공식 해외 활동이라는 점에서 의미가 깊다. 군은 그동안 국내 아동친화 정책을 통해 축적한 행정 역량을 국제무대에 공유하고, 동시에 몽골의 교육 환경 개선을 위한 유니세프의 글로벌 사업에도 기여한다는 입장이다.
예산군 관계자는 “이번 국제교류는 아동친화도시로서의 책임을 넘어, 국내외 아동의 삶의 질을 향상시키기 위한 실천의 시작”이라며 “앞으로도 예산군은 아동 권리 보호와 증진을 위한 다양한 활동에 앞장서겠다”고 밝혔다.
한편, 유니세프 ‘그린스쿨’ 프로그램은 태양광 발전, 친환경 에너지 시스템 도입, 위생시설 개선 등 기후위기로 위협받는 교육 환경 속에서 아동들의 기본 권리를 보장하고 지속가능한 교육을 실현하는 글로벌 프로젝트로, 몽골을 포함한 아시아 전역에서 확대 추진되고 있다.

Yesan County, South Chungcheong Province, is embarking on its first international journey as the vice-chair city of the Local Government Council for the Promotion of UNICEF Child-Friendly Cities.
