충남 당진시가 민선 8기 출범 3주년을 맞아 시정 성과를 정리하고 앞으로의 비전을 제시했다.
오성환 시장은 2일 당진시청 해나루홀에서 열린 기자회견에서 “지난 3년은 시민과 함께 변화의 길을 걸어온 시간이었다”며, “앞으로 남은 1년도 실용적이고 혁신적인 당진을 향해 나아가겠다”고 밝혔다.
이날 행사에는 시 공무원과 언론인 등 100여 명이 참석했으며, 시정 홍보영상 상영과 함께 오 시장의 주요 성과 브리핑, 질의응답 순으로 진행됐다.
오 시장은 민선 8기 3년의 성과로 15조 원 규모의 기업 투자유치 ,친환경 에너지 기반 확대 ,도심 인프라 확충 ,고용률 전국 시 단위 2위 달성 ,종합병원 및 자사고 설립 협약 ,인구 17만 2천 명 돌파 등을 대표 사례로 꼽았다.
경제 부문에서는 60개 기업으로부터 총 14조 9,500억 원의 투자를 유치했으며, 대기 중인 투자를 포함하면 규모는 약 19조 원에 이른다. 특히 수소 전소 발전소, 암모니아 전용부두, 무역항으로의 당진항 육성 등 미래산업 기반 조성에 적극 나서고 있다.
고용률도 괄목할 만한 성과를 보였다. 최근 고용률 71.3%를 기록하며, 전국 시 단위 기준 두 번째로 높은 수치를 기록했다.
정주 여건 개선도 큰 변화의 축으로 작용했다. 국도 32호선 대체 우회도로 예비타당성 통과, 수청동~시곡동 간 도로 확장, 도심 속 호수공원 조성 등이 추진되며 시민 생활 환경이 개선되고 있다.
특히, 현대제철과의 협약을 통해 종합병원과 자율형 사립고(자사고) 유치를 공식화한 점은 의료·교육 인프라 측면에서 획기적 변화로 평가된다.

농촌 분야에서는 청년 농업인 1,000명 육성, 스마트팜 클러스터 조성, 논콩 재배 확대 등 지속가능한 경쟁력 확보에 나서고 있으며, 해양수산 분야에서도 스마트양식단지와 수산식품 클러스터로 첨단화를 꾀하고 있다.
문화·관광 부문에서는 삽교호 드론 라이트쇼를 중부권 최초로 개최했으며, 도비도~난지도 해양관광복합단지, 기지시줄다리기 유네스코 등재 10주년 기념사업 등으로 관광 인프라를 확충하고 있다.
복지 분야에서는 전국 최초로 치매 위험도 혈액검사 전면 확대 시행, 청소년 수련관 건립, 교육복지 강화를 통해 실질적인 삶의 질 개선을 추구하고 있다.
