태안군이 농어촌 저층 주거지의 노후화 및 고령화로 인한 주민 불편을 해소하고 공공복지서비스 수요에 대응하고자 읍면 중심의 '마을관리소'를 운영하며 큰 호응을 얻고 있다.
지난해 9월 소원면에서 시범 운영을 시작한 마을관리소는 올해 6월까지 면내 23개 마을에서 총 1,626명의 주민이 서비스를 이용하는 성과를 거두었다. 마을관리소는 주민이 스스로 마을의 문제를 해결하는 생활밀착형 거점 공간으로, 농촌 지역 주민의 정주 여건 개선과 삶의 질 향상을 위한 공동체 활성화에 기여하고 있다. 군은 지난해 충청남도 주관 '마을관리소 시범 사업' 공모에 선정되어 2차년도 사업을 진행 중이다.
