브레이크뉴스 정민우 기자= 삼성전자가 7일 미국 디지털 헬스케어 회사 ‘젤스(Xealth)’와 인수 계약을 체결, 미국에서 ‘커넥티드 케어(Connected Care)’ 서비스 제공에 나선다. 삼성전자는 젤스 인수 절차를 연내에 마무리할 예정이다.
커넥티드 케어는 일상의 건강을 돌보는 웰니스 분야와 의료 분야에서의 헬스케어를 연결해 갤럭시 사용자가 편리하게 건강을 관리하고, 나아가 질병 예방까지도 할 수 있도록 돕는 삼성헬스의 비전이다.
젤스는 여러 디지털 헬스케어 솔루션을 하나의 플랫폼에서 제공하는 회사로, 2016년 미국의 대표적인 대형 병원 그룹인 프로비던스 헬스 시스템(Providence Health System)에서 스핀오프하며 설립됐다.
젤스는 프로비던스 헬스 시스템, 애드버케이트 헬스(Advocate Health), 배너 헬스(Banner Health) 등 미국 내 주요 대형 병원 그룹을 포함한 500여개의 병원과 당뇨, 임신, 수술 등과 관련된 70여개의 디지털 헬스케어 솔루션 기업을 파트너로 보유하고 있다.
젤스가 제공하는 플랫폼은 의료진이 환자 상태를 종합적으로 파악해 디지털 헬스케어 솔루션을 환자에게 처방·추천할 수 있게 하고, 환자의 건강상태도 실시간으로 조회할 수 있도록 지원한다.
일례로, 젤스와 협력을 맺은 병원의 의사는 젤스 플랫폼에서 당뇨 환자에게 혈당, 생활습관을 관리할 수 있는 솔루션 파트너 기업의 앱을 추천하고, 이를 통해 혈당 변화∙식이 조절∙운동 기록 등을 한 눈에 모니터링 할 수 있다.

한편, 삼성전자는 앞서 로봇(레인보우로보틱스), AI(옥스퍼드 시멘틱 테크놀로지스), 메드텍(소니오), 오디오/전장(룬, 마시모 오디오 사업부), AI 데이터센터 중심의 공조(플랙트) 등 미래 성장 산업 관련 기업을 잇따라 인수한 바 있다.
