충남교육청, ‘민주학교’ 실천 방안 모색

충청남도교육청(교육감 김지철)은 15일 아산시 캠코인재개발원에서 ‘2025학년도 1학기 민주학교 교감 및 업무 담당자 배움자리’를 개최하고, 학교 민주주의와 민주시민교육의 현장 실천 방안을 공유했다.

이날 행사에는 도내 55개 민주학교의 교감과 민주시민교육 담당 교원 100여 명이 참석했다. 참가자들은 교육과정 속 민주시민교육의 구체적인 적용 방안을 모색하고, 각 학교의 실천 사례를 공유하며 민주적 학교문화 조성 방안을 함께 고민했다.

충남교육청은 지난 2019년 20개교를 시작으로, 해마다 민주학교 지정을 확대해왔다. 2025학년도에는 총 55개 학교가 민주학교로 운영되며, '민주시민 교육과정 운영', '민주적 학교문화 조성', '학생자치 활성화' 등을 중심에 두고 다양한 실천이 이어지고 있다.

이날 배움자리에서는 충남 민주시민교육 실천교사모임을 이끌고 있는 윤석재 배방고 교사가 ‘학교 민주주의 실현 방안’을 주제로 특강을 진행했다. 윤 교사는 “민주적 학교 운영은 교육의 목표를 넘어서, 학생들이 시민으로서 살아갈 미래를 준비하는 과정”이라며, 교사 주도의 문화에서 벗어나 학생 참여 중심의 자치구조로의 전환 필요성을 강조했다.
