2020년 코로나로 우리가 위기를 맞았을 때, 베트남은 가장 먼저 한국에 대해 문을 닫았고 이후로 쏟아져 나오는 각종 기사들은 베트남에 대해 우리가 적개감을 갖는데 충족시켜 주었다. 특히 그로 인해 혐베 현상이 일어나는 것을 당시에 댓글로 확인했다. 이는 혐베와 혐한을 부추기는 기레기들의 글도 한 몫 했지만 가장 큰 문제는 우리가 베트남에 큰 배신감을 느꼈다는 여론이 형성되었다는 것이다. 그러나 그 모든 것이 나는 자업자득(自業自得)으로 본다. 베트남 현지에서 현지인 여성들에게 몹쓸 짓하며 각종 물의를 일으키고 간접적인 인종차별하는 한국 사람들의 의식에는 베트남 사람들은 후진국인들이고 동남아시아 사람들에 인종차별하며 비하하고 있는데 우리가 유럽이나 미국에서 인종차별 당하고 있는 것에 항의하고 그럴 낮이 있을까 모르겠다.
우리 스스로가 인종차별을 하고 있건만 미국이나 유럽에서 인종차별 당했다고 호소하는 것 자체가 이율배반이라는 것이다. 베트남을 마치 자기 아래로 보고 들어가는 사람들이 지천에 널렸고 한국인들이 생각하는 베트남의 후진국 이미지 등이 고스란히 반영된 부분이 바로 아래 링크와 같은 부분이다. 우리는 베트남 사람들을 같은 인간으로, 같은 인류이자 문화 교류자로, 진정한 친구로 대해본 적이 있었는가? 베트남인들을 애초부터 깔보고 들어가면서 후진국인으로 업신여기고 베트남에 들어와 생활하는 교민들이 많아지면서 현지인들에게 갑질하는 것, 베트남에서 생활하면서 많이 목격했다. 그리고 8년 전에는 하노이의 카페에서 여종업원의 엉덩이를 움켜쥐며 성추행했던 한국인들을 필자가 때려 눕힌 적 있다.
그렇게 범죄에 가까운 행위를 하고 정작 위기 때 우리가 저들에게 좋은 모습으로 보여지길 원하는 것인지 모르겠다. 베트남 내에서 혐한이 생기고 있는 이유는 베트남을 깔보고 갑질하며 무조건 자신들은 대우 받아야 한다는 비뚤어진 사람들이 많아지면서 생성되었다. 이것은 베트남 현지 뿐 아니라 현재 한국 국내에서도 마찬가지다. 한국 내 일하러 온 베트남 노동자들에게 제대로 된 사람 대접들은 해줬는지도 궁금할 지경이다. 특히 외노자들 때문에 일자리 없어서 외노자들 추방하라 주장하는 사람들, 불법체류자도 아니고 정상적인 비자받아 한국와서 돈 벌어간 사람들에게 제대로 된 인권 예우를 해주었는지도 궁금하다. 현지 베트남 사람들이 차별대우들을 받고 언제까지 참아줄 것이라고 생각했는가?
가장 근본적인 원인은 현지인을 후진국으로 업신여기고 갑질하며 온갖 하대와 몹쓸 짓을 다하는 그런 자들에게 있다. 우리가 베트남 사람들을 동등하게 존중하고 함께 더불어 살아가야 할 인류로 인식했다면 큰 위기가 생겼을 때 도움을 받을 수 있다. 베트남 문화와 사람들을 제대로 파악하고 존중하며 더불어 함께 살아갈 친구로 생각했기 때문에 필자 또한 베트남에서 어려웠을 때 많은 도움을 받을 수 있었다. 이는 필자 뿐 아니라 베트남에서 어려움을 겪었었던 교민 사업가들, 교민들도 현지인들에게 많은 도움을 받았었다는 것은 부정할 수 없는 사실이다. 베트남 사람들은 그런 순박한 문화를 가진 사람들이고 게다가 과거에 문화적 수준이 조선과 비슷할 정도로 높았던 사람들이다. 같은 사례로 러시아권 국가들 얘긴데 사업 때문에 왔던 관광으로 왔던 간에 러시아권 국가들에 와서 현지 여성과 놀게 해달라고 부탁하는 분들이 많다.
그 원인이 "러시아권 국가의 여인들은 김태희가 밭가는 나라" 라는 소문이 퍼져 있기 때문이다. 어디서 모델급 여인이나 몇몇 혼혈 인종 중 미모가 있는 여인들을 보고 그런 얘기를 하는지 모르겠는데 그런 인식을 가지고 러시아권 국가들에 오니 현지 여성을 만나게 해달라고 하는 한국 사람들이 많다. 현지 러시아권 사업가들과 친분을 쌓아 놓으며 사업 파트너가 되서 만나 그런 얘기를 한다면 그들이 한국인을 어떻게 보겠는가? 가장 안 좋은 것은 후진국의 잣대로 상대를 평가한다는 것이다. 러시아권 국가들에 한국 브랜드의 자동차들이 돌아 다니고 한국 기업들이 스폰하고 있기에 한국 사람들 자부심을 갖는 것은 사실이지만 대개 거만하게 들어와 상전처럼 행동하는 자들이 늘고 있다 한다. 지금이야 러시아권 국가들의 정부와 사람들이 한국에 호의적이지만 이런식으로 행동들을 하면 그 호의감이 얼마나 갈까?
상대 문화를 존중하고 동등한 잣대에서 이해해야 하는 것이 문화다. 러시아권 사람들을 우습게 알고 쉽게 현지 여성과 놀 수 있다고 보기 때문에 그와 같은 행동들을 하고 있는 것이다. 현지와 한국에서 보는 외국인 여성들에 대한 인식이 어떠한 지를 이번 하노이 무인 사진관에서 폭행 사건이 표본이 되어 보여주고 있다. 베트남 뿐이 아니고 동남아시아, 중앙아시아, 러시아, 우크라이나 등, 한국보다 경제력에서 떨어진다고 예의 없이 함부로 대하는 경향이 많다. 과거에 결혼정보회사 등이 베트남 뿐이 아니고 동남아시아, 중앙아시아, 러시아, 우크라이나 등 매매혼 비슷하게 했던 행위들을 했었고 이들 나라들이 경제력이 낮다고 한국 남자들이 결혼해주면 감사한 줄 알아라라는 인식을 갖고 있는 것이다. 이러한 인식들이 베트남이나 중앙아시아, 러시아의 여성 대학생들이 결혼만을 위해 한국에 왔다는 부정적인 고정관념과 편견을 심어주는 결과를 가져다주는 것이다.
현재 베트남의 각 커뮤니티들에서는 반한감정, 혐한감정이 들끓고 있다. 지금 모든 베트남 커뮤니티들 이 여성들을 규탄하고 어디 사는지 칮아내느라 여기저기 제보도 받고 난리 난 상태인 것이다. 요즘 베트남 커뮤니티 내 박제방이 유명한데 이미 혐한으로 도배되어 있는 상태다. 커뮤니티에 박제되는 순간, 한국에서 베트남인들에게 얼굴이 팔리게 되는 것뿐만 아니라 신상정보가 나돌아다는 것은 당연한 것이고 끝까지 따라가서 복수하는 베트남인들의 성정으로 볼 때, 이는 매우 심각한 상황으로 보여 진다. 한국에 거주하는 베트남인 숫자가 30만이 넘어가는데 한국 내 베트남의 커뮤니티들에서도 비판이 매우 거센 상태다. 필자가 베트남에서 현재 거주하고 있으면서 늘 느끼는건데 한국인들은 동남아시아인들을 거의 거지보듯이 하고 있다. 불과 50년 전만해도 남베트남보다도 못살았던 나라가 현지인을 똑같은 사람으로 여기지 않으며 마치 노예나 종놈보듯이 대하고 있다.
그러니 남의 나라에서도 저런 갑질 및 폭력을 행사하는 하는것이다. 그러나 동남아시아 사람들을 보면 겉으로는 안 그런척 해도 다 알고 있다. 베트남에서 한국 기업들이 밀려나고 투자도 어렵게 받는 이유가 한국인들이 현지에서 갖은 추태와 현지인들에 대한 멸시 등등 한국인 자신들이 베트남 현지에서 한 행위들이 있기 때문이다. 반면 일본인들은 베트남에서 환영받고 있다. 일본인들이 베트남에서 환영받고 있는 이유는 비록 진정성이 떨어지지만 예의가 바르고 공사 구분이 확실해 신뢰가 가는 파트너라 생각하기 때문이다. 그러나 한국인들은 현지인들을 존중하지 않는 졸부 마인드가 여전히 잔존하고 있다. 이와 같은 졸부 마인드들이 개선되지 않는 한, 한국인들은 어디서든 환영받지 못할 것이다.
