이번 선정으로 경주시는 2019년 서면 천촌리 이후 6년 만에 해당 공모사업에 다시 이름을 올렸다.
‘취약지역 생활여건 개조사업’은 주거환경이 열악한 농어촌 지역의 생활 인프라를 확충하고 정주 여건을 개선하기 위한 국가 공모사업으로, 주민들의 기본적인 삶의 질을 보장하는 것을 목표로 한다.
경주시는 이번 공모 선정을 위해 지난 1월부터 수요조사, 주민설명회, 마을회의, 선진지 벤치마킹 등 철저한 사전 준비 절차를 거쳤으며, 전국 150개 신청 지구 중 가척마을을 포함한 85개 지구가 최종 선정되는 성과를 거뒀다.
이번 사업 선정에 따라 경주시는 오는 2026년부터 2029년까지 4년간 총 14억 5천만 원(국비 10억 원 포함)의 예산을 투입해 △생활·위생·안전 기반시설 확충 및 정비 △빈집 정비 △슬레이트 지붕 개량 △휴먼케어 프로그램 운영 등 마을 전반에 걸친 포괄적 정주환경 개선 사업을 본격적으로 추진할 예정이다.
주낙영 경주시장은 “이번 사업을 통해 오랜 시간 열악한 주거환경과 부족한 생활기반시설로 불편을 겪어 온 주민들의 삶의 질이 크게 향상될 것으로 기대된다”며 “앞으로도 농촌 취약지역을 위한 맞춤형 정책과 사업을 지속적으로 발굴·추진해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.

Following the selection of this project, Gyeongju City will invest a total of 1.45 billion won (including 1 billion won in national funds) over four years from 2026 to 2029 to fully implement a comprehensive residential environment improvement project across the entire village, including: △ expanding and improving living, sanitation, and safety infrastructure; △ organizing empty houses; △ improving slate roofs; and △ operating human care programs.
Mayor Joo Nak-young of Gyeongju said, “Through this project, we expect to greatly improve the quality of life of residents who have suffered from poor living conditions and insufficient living infrastructure for a long time,” and added, “We will continue to discover and promote customized policies and projects for vulnerable rural areas in the future.”
