‘한국의 최고경영대상’은 조선일보가 주최하고 기획재정부, 산업통상자원부, 과학기술정보통신부 등 주요 정부 부처가 후원하는 행사로, 지속가능한 성장 모델을 제시한 지방정부와 공공기관, 기업 등을 대상으로 매년 시상하고 있다.
경주시는 APEC 정상회의 유치를 통한 도시경쟁력 향상과 함께, 소형모듈원자로(SMR) 중심의 미래 신산업 생태계 조성, 친환경 교통·주거 인프라 확충, 저출생 대응 전략 마련 등 다방면에서 미래 성장 기반을 구축한 점이 높은 평가를 받았다.
이날 행사에서 조형래 조선일보 본부장은 “오는 10월 경주에서 열리는 APEC 정상회의의 성공적인 개최를 기원한다”며 경주시의 국제적 행보에 응원의 메시지를 전했다.
주낙영 경주시장은 수상 소감을 통해 “경주는 이제 역사문화도시를 넘어 미래산업과 글로벌 외교의 중심지로 도약하고 있다”며 “이번 수상은 25만 시민이 함께 이룬 성과이며, 앞으로도 APEC 정상회의 성공 개최와 지속 가능한 미래형 도시 조성에 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
