한설 예비역 장군(육군 소장)은 7월20일 인터넷 저널인 페이스북에 “한국의 지배적인 지식인과 언론의 반국가적 행위를 비판한다” 제목의 글을 게재했다.
이 글에서 “한국이 중국과의 경쟁에서 경쟁력을 회복할 수 있는 유일한 방안은 북한과의 관계개선이자 전면적인 경제협력이다. 필자가 '남북경제안보동맹'과 '인문지리적 억제'를 주장하는 이유이기도 하다. 북한은 우리에게 위협이기도 하지만 현재 우리가 직면한 지정학적 대 격변과 경제적 위기를 극복할 수 있는 유일한 기회이기도 하다. 정상적이라면 위협을 제거하고 기회를 만들어 가야한다. 북한을 통한 기회를 만들지 않고 위기와 위협을 더욱 확대하려는 자들 또한 국가반역의 선상에 있는 것”이라고 주장했다.
