포항해양경찰서(서장 이근안)는 육군 제50보병사단 해룡여단, 해군 포항항만방어대대, 해병대 제2여단과 함께 효과적인 해안 감시와 통합방위 태세 강화를 위한 업무협정을 체결했다고 밝혔다.
이번 협정은 최근 해상 밀입국과 비대칭 위협 증가 등으로 해상 경계의 중요성이 커지는 상황에서 기존 군·경 협력체계를 보다 체계화하고, 통합방위 해상경계 태세를 한층 강화하기 위해 추진됐다.
각 기관은 그동안 해안 감시와 해상 경계 임무 수행 과정에서 긴밀한 공조체계를 유지해 왔으며, 이번 협정을 계기로 협력 범위를 더욱 확대하기로 했다.
주요 협력 내용은 ▲해상 미식별·밀입국 의심 선박 확인 지원 ▲해상 테러 관련 정보 공유 및 작전 지원 ▲해안 및 해상 수색·구조 협력 ▲유사시 합동 대응능력 강화 등이다.
특히 육군·해군·해병대 전력과 해양경찰의 경비세력 및 감시자산을 유기적으로 연계해 정보 공유와 현장 대응이 보다 신속하고 체계적으로 이뤄질 것으로 기대된다.
이근안 포항해양경찰서장은 “이번 협정을 계기로 군과 해양경찰 간 통합방위 협력체계가 한층 강화됐다”며 “앞으로도 유관기관과 긴밀한 협력을 통해 국민의 생명과 재산을 보호하고 안전한 포항 바다를 지키는 데 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.

The Pohang Coast Guard (Commander Lee Geun-an) announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Army's 50th Infantry Division Haeryong Brigade, the Navy's Pohang Port Defense Battalion, and the Marine Corps' 2nd Brigade to enhance effective coastal surveillance and strengthen integrated defense readiness.
This agreement was pursued to further systematize the existing military-police cooperation framework and significantly reinforce integrated defense maritime security posture, given the growing importance of maritime border security due to recent increases in maritime illegal immigration and asymmetric threats.
Each agency has maintained a close cooperative system during the performance of coastal surveillance and maritime border security missions, and through this agreement, they have decided to further expand the scope of cooperation. Key areas of cooperation include: support for identifying unidentified or suspected illegal vessels at sea; sharing intelligence and providing operational support regarding maritime terrorism; cooperation in coastal and maritime search and rescue; and strengthening joint response capabilities in times of emergency.
In particular, it is expected that information sharing and on-site response will be carried out more rapidly and systematically by organically linking the forces of the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps with the Coast Guard's security forces and surveillance assets.
Lee Geun-an, Head of the Pohang Coast Guard, stated, "This agreement has further strengthened the integrated defense cooperation system between the military and the Coast Guard," adding, "We will continue to do our utmost to protect the lives and property of the people and safeguard the safe waters of Pohang through close cooperation with relevant agencies."
