통계청이 7월에 발표한 인구동향에 따르면, 올해 1월부터 5월까지 인천시의 출생아 수는 총 6,868명으로 전년 동기 대비 1,278명이 증가해 12.3%의 높은 성장률을 기록했다.
이는 전국 평균 6.9%를 크게 상회하는 수치이며, 충북(11.4%)과 대구(10.9%)가 그 뒤를 이었다.
인천시는 지난해 5월부터 상승세로 전환되었으며, 10월부터 두 자릿수의 증가율을 꾸준히 유지하고 있다.
