【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=동국대학교 WISE캠퍼스 인문도시사업단(단장 홍은숙)은 2025학년도 상반기 ‘초중고 찾아가는 인문강좌’를 성공적으로 마무리했다고 밝혔다.

이번 강좌는 교육부와 한국연구재단이 지원하는 인문도시지원사업 ‘경주, 공감문화 상생플랫폼 도시’의 일환으로, 경주교육지원청과의 협력을 통해 추진됐다. 지역 청소년들이 경주의 풍부한 인문자산에 대한 이해를 높이고, 인문적 상상력과 사고력을 기를 수 있도록 기획된 프로그램이다.
2025학년도 1학기 강의에는 경주 지역 6개 초·중·고교에서 총 440여 명의 학생들이 참여했다. 프로그램은 ▲화랑과 놀고 신라를 배우다 ▲경주 설화와 AI 스토리텔링 ▲영문학자가 들려주는 영어 이야기 ▲경주와 세계를 잇는 문화유산 이야기 ▲AI로 다시 쓰는 향가 전자책 만들기 ▲AI시대의 휴먼 리터러시 등 다채로운 인문학 주제로 구성돼 학생들의 높은 호응을 얻었다.
실제 강좌에 참여한 한 경주여자중학교 학생은 “경주에 살면서도 미처 몰랐던 이야기들을 듣게 되어 흥미로웠고, 경주에 대한 애정이 더 깊어졌다”며 “최근 학교에서 받은 수업 중 가장 기억에 남는다”고 말했다. 또 다른 학생은 “철학적 사고와 미래에 대한 고민을 처음으로 해볼 수 있었던 소중한 시간이었다”고 소감을 전했다.
경주교육지원청 황영애 교육장은 “지역의 역사와 문화유산을 바탕으로 한 인문학 교육은 학생들의 인문 소양을 키우는 데 큰 도움이 된다”며 “하반기에도 학생 눈높이에 맞는 찾아가는 인문 강좌를 적극 지원하겠다”고 전했다.
홍은숙 동국대 인문도시사업단장은 “이번 강좌를 통해 학생들이 경주의 역사와 문화를 인문학적으로 이해하고, 자신의 삶을 성찰하는 계기가 되었기를 바란다”며 “앞으로도 학교와 지역사회가 함께 참여할 수 있는 인문학 프로그램을 지속적으로 개발해 인문도시 경주의 위상 강화에 기여하겠다”고 밝혔다.
한편, 동국대 WISE캠퍼스 인문도시사업단은 하반기에도 지역 초·중·고등학교 및 지역사회와 연계한 다양한 인문학 프로그램을 운영하며, 지속 가능한 인문도시 경주 구축을 위한 노력을 이어갈 계획이다.

Dongguk University WISE Campus, ‘Visiting Humanities Lecture’ Completed… Gyeongju Students Foster Humanistic Imagination
Dongguk University WISE Campus Humanities City Project Team (Director Hong Eun-sook) announced that it successfully completed the ‘Visiting Humanities Lecture for Elementary, Middle, and High Schools’ in the first half of the 2025 school year.
This lecture was promoted through cooperation with the Gyeongju Office of Education as part of the ‘Gyeongju, Empathy Culture Symbiotic Platform City’ Humanities City Support Project supported by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea. This program was designed to help local youth increase their understanding of Gyeongju’s rich humanities assets and foster humanistic imagination and thinking skills.
A total of 440 students from 6 elementary, middle, and high schools in the Gyeongju area participated in the lecture in the first semester of the 2025 school year. The program consisted of diverse humanities topics such as ▲Playing with Hwarang and learning about Silla ▲Gyeongju folktales and AI storytelling ▲English stories told by English literature scholars ▲Cultural heritage stories connecting Gyeongju and the world ▲Making Hyangga e-books rewritten with AI ▲Human literacy in the AI era, which received a great response from students.
A student from Gyeongju Girls’ Middle School who actually participated in the class said, “It was interesting to hear stories I didn’t know even though I lived in Gyeongju, and my love for Gyeongju deepened,” and “It’s the most memorable class I’ve taken at school recently.” Another student said, “It was a valuable time where I was able to think philosophically and think about the future for the first time.”
Hwang Young-ae, superintendent of the Gyeongju Office of Education, said, “Humanities education based on the region’s history and cultural heritage is a great help in developing students’ humanities knowledge,” and “We will actively support humanities lectures that meet the students’ eye level in the second half of the year as well.”
Hong Eun-sook, the director of the Dongguk University Humanities City Project, said, “I hope that this course will provide students with an opportunity to understand Gyeongju’s history and culture from a humanistic perspective and reflect on their own lives,” and added, “We will continue to develop humanities programs in which schools and local communities can participate together and contribute to strengthening the status of Gyeongju as a humanities city.”
Meanwhile, the Dongguk University WISE Campus Humanities City Project plans to continue its efforts to build a sustainable humanities city of Gyeongju by operating various humanities programs in conjunction with local elementary, middle, and high schools and local communities in the second half of the year.
