충남 서산시가 다시 한 번 드론 산업의 중심지로 부상하고 있다.
서산시는 30일, 국토교통부가 주관한 제3차 드론 특별 자유화구역에 연속 지정됐다고 공식 발표했다. 2023년 첫 지정을 받은 데 이어 이번에도 선정돼, 지역 내 드론 산업 생태계는 한층 더 탄력을 받을 전망이다.
이번 지정으로 서산시는 부남호, 가로림만, 삼길포항 등 세 곳에서 2027년 6월까지 드론 실증 연구를 진행할 수 있게 됐다.
이들 구역에서는 드론 비행 사전 승인, 150kg을 초과하는 고중량 무인항공기 특별감항증명, 전파법상 적합성 평가 등 복잡한 규제가 대폭 완화되거나 절차가 간소화된다. 이를 바탕으로 각 지역의 특성에 맞는 드론 기술과 서비스가 도입된다.
부남호에서는 한국자동차연구원과 함께 미래항공모빌리티의 축소기술 개발 실증이 이루어진다. 가로림만 구역은 드론을 활용한 지역 맞춤형 배송 상용화와 더불어, 조명방송드론, 수소드론 등 다양한 기술을 활용한 연안 사고 예방 모니터링 서비스를 실험한다.
삼길포항에서는 대산석유화학단지의 산업 안전을 위해 드론을 활용한 항만·공정 감시와 관리가 추진된다.
서산시는 실증 사업이 활성화됨에 따라 안전관리에도 만전을 기할 계획이다. 항공안전기술원과 함께 현장 관리·감독을 강화하는 한편, 군·경·소방 등 유관기관과의 긴밀한 협조체계도 갖췄다. 동시에 이번 연속 지정이 지역 드론 산업 기반을 더욱 확충할 전환점이 될 것이라는 기대를 내비쳤다.
