[브레이크뉴스=양영석 기자] 김해시는 지난달 24일 아프리카 짐바브웨서 열린 ‘제15차 람사르협약 당사국 총회(COP15)’ 공식 행사에서 람사르습지도시 인증서를 받았다고 1일 밝혔다.
이에 앞서 김해시는 지난 1월 24일 스위스 글랑에서 열린 제64차 람사르협약 상임위원회에서 ‘람사르습지도시’ 인증을 확정받았으며, 1일 람사르협약 사무국으로부터 인증서를 전달받으며 그 지위를 공식화했다.
김해의 화포천습지는 큰기러기, 황새 등의 멸종위기 야생동물 24종을 비롯한 800여 종 생물들의 서식처이자 국내 최대 하천형 배후습지로서 2017년 환경부 지정 국가습지보호지역으로 지정되며 국내 생태계에서 중요한 위치임을 인정받았다. 이어 람사르습지도시 인증으로 화포천습지 생태자원의 가치를 세계적 수준으로 끌어올리는 출발점에 섰다.
