【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=포스코청암재단(이사장 장인화)은 지난 7월 17일 광주시 동구 소태동에서 기록적 폭우로 위기에 처한 시민을 구조한 네 명을 ‘포스코히어로즈’로 선정하고 상패와 상금을 전달했다고 밝혔다.

이번에 선정된 최승일(49)·김인중(44)·정수연(50)·이장복(32) 씨는 인근 상가에서 함께 생활하는 이웃으로, 폭우로 하천 둑이 무너지며 거센 물살이 도로를 덮친 가운데 도로 틈에 다리가 끼여 대피하지 못한 시민을 발견하고 구조에 나섰다.
최승일 씨가 가장 먼저 물살 속으로 뛰어들었고, 나머지 세 명도 차례로 합류해 나무판자로 물길을 막고 인근 공업사에서 가져온 공구로 시민의 다리를 빼내기 시작했다. 구조 도중 급류에 떠밀려 온 차량에 부딪힐 뻔한 위기도 있었으나, 네 사람은 차량을 멈춰 세운 뒤 구조를 이어갔다.
약 20분간의 사투 끝에 시민은 무사히 구조됐다. 최승일 씨는 “물살이 너무 거세 위험했지만 꼭 구해야겠다는 생각뿐이었다”며 “함께 고생해준 이웃들에게 감사하다”고 소감을 전했다.
포스코청암재단은 2019년 제정한 ‘포스코히어로즈펠로십’을 통해 사회적 귀감이 되는 시민을 발굴·시상하며, 의로운 행동에 대한 사회적 관심을 높이고 상생하는 공동체 문화를 확산하고 있다.
한편, 포스코그룹은 지난 21일 집중호우 피해 복구를 위해 전국재해구호협회에 20억 원을 기탁했으며, 성금은 긴급구호, 주거 안전 확보, 생필품 지원 등에 사용될 예정이다.
