도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 11일(현지시간) 기존 중국과의 '90일 관세 휴전' 합의를 재차 연장하는 내용의 행정명령에 서명했다
영국 '로이터 통신' 미 'CNBC' 등에 따르면 트럼프 대통령은 앞서 지난 5월 중국과 합의한 90일 관세 휴전 마지막 날인 이날 자신의 트루스소셜 글을 통해 "나는 중국이 빨리 (미국산) 대두 주문을 4배 늘리길 희망한다"며 이같이 전했다.
이에 따라 오는 10월 말∼11월 초 예정된 경주 APEC(아시아태평양경제협력체) 정상회의를 전후해 트럼프 2기 행정부 첫 미·중 정상회담 개최 가능성을 높일 분위기가 조성된 형국이다.
미·중은 앞서 지난 4월 서로 주고받기 식으로 관세율을 올리며 대치하던 중 5월 제네바 제1차 고위급 무역 회담 계기로 각각 115% 포인트씩 관세율을 대폭 낮추기로 합의한 바 있다.
당시 양측은 각자 수입품을 겨냥한 추가 관세율 115% 중 지난 4월 매겨진 91%포인트는 취소하면서 24%포인트에 대해 적용을 90일 유예키로 했다.
이후 양측은 지난 6월 런던 2차 고위급 무역회담에서 미국의 대 중국 첨단 반도체 수출 통제 관련 이견 및 중국의 대미 희토류 수출 통제 등을 조율한 바 있다.
또 양측은 앞서 지난 7월 28∼29일 스웨덴 3차 미·중 무역회담에서 관세 유예를 90일 더 연장하는 방안에 잠정 합의했으나 트럼프 대통령이 이날까지 최종 결정을 미뤄왔었다.
