도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 14일(현지시간) 블라디미르 푸틴 러시아 대통령과의 알래스카 미·러 정상회담에 앞서 긍정적 전망과 함께 우크라이나 전쟁 해결 관련 합의가 되지 않을 시 대 러시아 제재 가능성도 동시에 언급했다.
영국 '로이터 통신'에 따르면 트럼프 대통령은 이날 미 '폭스 뉴스' 인터뷰에서 "이번 미·러 정상회담이 실패할 경우 대비한 제재 옵션이 테이블 위에 올라와 있다"며 이같이 밝혔다.
그러면서 "이번 회담이 두 번째 회담((볼로디미르 젤렌스키 우크라 대통령도 참여하는 미·러·우크라 3자 회담)을 세팅할 것"이라며 "두 번째 회담이 매우 매우 중요할 건데 왜냐면 합의할 회담이 될 것이기 때문"이라고 전했다.
이어 '3자 회담 개최 시 논의될 러·우크라 전쟁 휴전·종전 합의' 관련해선 "뭔가를 분배한다는 말을 쓰고 싶지 않으나 그게 나쁜 표현은 아니다"며 "어느 정도 경계·땅 등에서 주고받기가 있을 것"이라고 밝혔다.
또 "지금 나는 그(푸틴 대통령)가 합의할 것으로 확신하고 있다 믿으며 합의할거라 생각한다"면서도 "그러나 이번 회담이 성공적 회담이 되지 않을 25% 가능성이 있다"고 했다.
더불어 '미 연방 상원이 러시아산 제품 수입 국가에 대한 고율의 2차 관세 도입 법안을 심의 중인 가운데 향후 대 러시아 추가 제재 가능성 여부' 질의에 "해결(러·우크라 전쟁 휴전·종전 관련 합의)되지 않는다면 물론"이라고 답했다.

이와 관련해 캐롤라인 레빗 백악관 대변인은 이날 미 '폭스 뉴스' 인터뷰에서 "내일 아침 일찍 트럼프 대통령은 백악관을 출발해 알래스카주 앵커리지 합동군사기지를 향하며 그곳에서 푸틴 대통령과 일 대 일 회담을 진행 예정"이라며 "양국 각 대표단과 함께 양자간 오찬 회담 후 양 정상이 나란히 기자들 앞에서 질문받는 공동기자회견이 열릴 예정"이라고 전한 바 있다.
