글로벌태권도연맹(GTTF) 문기주 총회장이 준리 총재와 함께 8월 6일부터 12일까지 에티오피아를 공식 방문하며 태권도 보급과 함께 문화·경제 외교에서 의미 있는 성과를 거뒀다.
이번 방문은 에티오피아 전역에서 큰 관심을 모았으며, 외무부 장관과 주요 정부 관계자, 태권도 지도자, 청소년 선수들과의 만남이 현지 국영방송을 포함한 언론에 대대적으로 보도됐다.

첫날 아디스아바바 공항에는 헨옥 사범을 비롯한 50여 명의 태권도 관계자들이 마중 나와 GTTF 방문단을 환영했다.
이어진 기자회견에서 문기주 총회장은 "한국과 에티오피아의 관계를 경제와 문화로 더욱 굳건히 하겠다"고 방문 목적을 밝혔다.

GTTF 임원진은 200여 명의 태권도 꿈나무들과 함께 시청에서 제공한 5000평의 땅에 500그루의 아보카도 나무를 심어 '태권도 나무 공원' 조성에 나섰다.
이는 태권도를 통한 문화 교류와 환경 보호를 동시에 추구하는 상징적 의미를 담고 있다.
에티오피아 지부 지도자들과의 세미나에서 준리 대사범은 홍익인간 정신과 전통 태권도의 가치를 강조했다.

특히 북한식 태권도를 익힌 일부 사범들에게도 태극기와 GTTF 도복을 지급하며 화합과 평화의 메시지를 전달하고 품세를 직접 지도하는 등 평화로운 교육 현장을 연출했다.
경제 분야에서도 실질적 성과가 이어졌다.
지난 10일 에티오피아 최고은행인 'BERHAN BANK'와 문기주 총회장 산하 회사인 '주원' 간 건설기계·화장품 등 다방면 협력 MOU를 체결했다.

우선 공장기계와 화장품 분야 협력으로 시작되지만, 추후 화장품, 에너지, 건설기계(중장비), 공장, 건물건설, K푸드 등 다양한 분야로 협력 범위를 확대할 예정이다.
GTTF 에티오피아 회장인 헨옥 사범은 아디스아바바에 '문기주 태권도장' 50개를 설립한다는 야심찬 계획을 발표했다.
에티오피아는 6.25 참전국으로 6073명이 참전해 161명이 전사했다.
헨옥 사범의 조부 역시 한국전쟁에 참전한 인연이 있어 양국 관계는 더욱 특별하다.
