우미희망재단(이사장 이석준)이 산재·다문화가정 아동·청소년들을 대상으로 마련한 진로탐색 프로그램이 해외 무대까지 확장됐다. 재단은 8월 5일부터 9일까지 베트남 호치민에서 ‘2025 상반기 우미드림파인더 해외캠프’를 진행하며, 참가한 25명의 아동·청소년에게 새로운 진로의 가능성과 세계를 향한 시야를 열어주는 기회를 제공했다.
‘우미드림파인더’는 우미희망재단이 2018년부터 운영해온 맞춤형 진로탐색 프로그램이다. 다문화가정 및 산재 피해 가정의 아동·청소년에게 1:1 꿈매니저를 매칭해 진로를 함께 설계하도록 돕는 것이 특징이다. 이 과정에서 단순한 상담을 넘어 체험 프로그램, 진로 장학금, NGO 협업을 통한 교육 지원 등이 유기적으로 결합된다. 특히 글로벌 아동권리 전문 NGO인 굿네이버스와의 협력은 프로그램의 전문성과 신뢰도를 높이는 기반이 되어왔다.
이번 해외캠프는 이 같은 기존 틀에 ‘글로벌 현장 경험’이라는 요소를 결합했다. 참가 학생들은 한국 유학생들과 만나 현지 진학 및 생활에 관한 이야기를 듣고, 베트남에 진출한 한국 기업을 직접 방문해 글로벌 산업 현장을 체험했다. 호치민 한국교육원을 찾아 해외 한국기관의 역할과 직업 세계에 대해 배우며 진로 선택의 스펙트럼을 넓혔다.
해외캠프의 또 다른 축은 문화·역사 체험이다. 학생들은 베트남 전통 음식을 직접 만들어보는 쿠킹 클래스에 참여하며, 음식 문화가 사회와 직업 세계에 어떻게 연결되는지 체감했다. 또한 베트남 현대사의 상징적 장소인 통일궁을 방문해 역사와 사회 구조를 배우는 시간을 가졌다. 이는 단순 관광을 넘어, 다른 문화를 이해하고 공존하는 경험이 진로 선택에 어떤 의미를 갖는지 고민할 수 있는 장치로 작동했다.
재단 측은 이번 해외캠프가 단발성 체험에 그치지 않도록 사전 준비에도 공을 들였다. 참가자들은 캠프에 앞서 3개월 동안 1:1 맞춤형 진로탐색 과정을 밟으며 자신의 적성과 가능성을 탐색했다. 그 연장선에서 해외 현장 경험을 결합해 ‘진로 여정의 입체화’를 시도한 셈이다.
우미희망재단 이춘석 사무국장은 “아이들이 자신의 가능성을 직접 확인했기를 바란다”며 “앞으로도 아이들이 주도적으로 꿈을 키워갈 수 있도록 든든한 동반자가 되겠다”고 강조했다. 이는 단순한 사회공헌이 아니라, 미래 세대의 성장 과정에 실질적 자원을 투입하는 ‘투자형 CSR’로 읽힌다.

The Umi Hope Foundation (Chairman Seok-jun Lee) has expanded its career exploration program for children and teenagers from multicultural and industrial accident-affected families to an international stage. From August 5 to 9, the foundation held the '2025 First Half Umi Dream Finder Overseas Camp' in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The camp offered 25 participating youths the chance to explore new career possibilities and gain a global perspective.
'Umi Dream Finder' is a customized career exploration program that the Umi Hope Foundation has run since 2018. It pairs children and teenagers from multicultural families and families affected by industrial accidents with a 1:1 "Dream Manager" to help them plan their careers. This process goes beyond simple counseling, organically integrating hands-on experience programs, career scholarships, and educational support through NGO partnerships. The collaboration with Good Neighbors, a global NGO specializing in children's rights, has been a key factor in enhancing the program's professionalism and reliability.
This overseas camp combined the existing framework with the element of "global on-site experience." The student participants met with Korean students studying abroad to hear about local life and university admissions, and visited Korean companies operating in Vietnam to experience a global industry setting firsthand. They also visited the Korean Education Center in Ho Chi Minh City to learn about the roles of Korean institutions abroad and expand their spectrum of career choices.
Another pillar of the overseas camp was cultural and historical immersion. Students participated in a cooking class to make traditional Vietnamese food, learning how food culture connects to society and the professional world. They also visited the Independence Palace, a symbolic location in Vietnam's modern history, to learn about the country's past and social structure. This served as more than just a tour; it encouraged participants to consider what it means to understand and coexist with another culture in the context of their career paths.
The foundation put significant effort into preparing for the camp to ensure it wasn't a one-off experience. Prior to the trip, participants underwent a three-month, 1:1 customized career exploration process to discover their aptitudes and potential. The overseas experience was an extension of this process, a way to make their "career journey three-dimensional."
"We hope the children were able to confirm their own potential," said Chun-seok Lee, the Secretary-General of the Umi Hope Foundation. He added, "We will continue to be a strong partner, helping children to lead their own journeys toward their dreams." This initiative is seen not just as social contribution but as a form of "investment-based CSR," which allocates tangible resources to the growth of the next generation.
Korean society faces structural challenges, including the increasing number of multicultural families and the continuous occurrence of industrial accidents. Children and teenagers from these families often have limited access to social resources, which can put them at a disadvantage in their education and career planning.
In this context, programs established by private foundations play a crucial role in filling the gaps left by national policy. By fostering a global perspective through international experiences and allowing children to explore the intersections of different jobs and cultures, these programs help build the foundation for a future, more inclusive society.
