시는 20일 북구 학산로 이전 건립 현장에서 착공식을 열고 본격적인 공사에 들어갔다고 밝혔다.
착공식에는 이강덕 포항시장과 김일만 포항시의회 의장을 비롯해 도·시의원, 지역 단체, 주민 등 150여 명이 참석했다.
중앙동행정복지센터 건립은 2021년 추진위원회의 요청으로 시작돼 2022년 지방재정 투자심사 승인과 보상 협의, 건축설계 공모 등을 거치며 속도를 내왔다.
총사업비 73억 5천만 원이 투입되며, 대지면적 1,144㎡, 연면적 987.88㎡, 지상 3층 규모로 조성된다. 시는 2026년 2월 준공을 목표로 차질 없는 사업 추진에 나선다.
새로운 청사가 들어서면 안정적인 행정복지 공간 확보와 지진 피해로 철거된 시민아파트 부지 활용으로 주민들의 오랜 숙원을 해소하고, 보다 나은 행정·복지 서비스를 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. 특히 청사 인근에 공영주차장이 조성될 계획으로 주민들의 이용 편의성이 높아질 전망이다.
또한 학산천 생태하천 복원사업과 연계해 쾌적한 생활환경과 여가·휴식 공간이 조성되고, 지역 상권에도 활력이 더해질 것으로 보인다.
이강덕 포항시장은 “중앙동행정복지센터는 주민들의 오랜 염원을 담아낸 공간으로, 쾌적하고 안전한 행정서비스 환경을 마련하게 될 것”이라며 “학산천 복원사업과 더불어 생활환경 개선과 지역경제 활성화에도 큰 힘이 될 것으로 기대한다”고 말했다.
