시는 올해 메밀과 해바라기 등 가을꽃을 대규모로 파종해 시민과 관광객에게 풍성한 볼거리를 제공한다. 호미반도 경관농업단지는 2018년부터 조성돼 매년 유채꽃, 유색보리, 메밀꽃, 해바라기 등 사계절 꽃밭을 선보이며 명소로 자리매김했다. 올해는 면적을 약 100ha(30만 평)로 확대해 더욱 다채로운 경관을 준비했다.
이번 2차 파종은 메밀 30ha, 해바라기 8ha 규모로 진행됐다. 메밀꽃은 9월 중순 절정을 맞을 예정이며, 추석 연휴에는 해바라기가 만개해 가을 정취를 더할 전망이다.
특히 호미반도는 바다와 어우러진 독특한 지형 덕분에 사진 명소로 인기를 끌고 있다. 시는 이번 개화 시즌에 맞춰 경관농업 굿즈, 지역 음식을 활용한 팝업스토어, 푸드페스타 등 다양한 이벤트를 마련해 방문객들에게 즐길 거리를 선사할 계획이다.

이강덕 포항시장은 “경관농업은 지역 농업과 관광을 연계하는 중요한 사업”이라며 “많은 시민이 호미반도를 찾아 자연 속에서 힐링과 여유를 느끼길 바란다”고 말했다.
한편 호미반도 경관농업단지는 계절별 작물의 생육 주기를 활용해 단순한 꽃밭을 넘어 농업과 관광이 결합된 융복합 모델로 주목받고 있으며, 시는 앞으로도 다양한 품종과 콘텐츠를 도입해 지역경제 활성화를 이어갈 방침이다.
