【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=이강덕 포항시장은 지난 20일 포항을 찾은 지노비예프 게오르기 주한 러시아 대사와 두드니크 옥사나 주부산 러시아 총영사를 만나 지방정부 간 교류 재개와 북극항로 협력 확대 방안을 논의했다.

지노비예프 대사는 이날 포항영일신항만㈜을 방문해 터미널 시설과 물류 인프라를 시찰하고 항만 운영 현황과 향후 개발 계획에 대한 설명을 들었다.
양측은 최근 중단된 한-러 지방정부 교류 상황에 대한 우려를 공유하고, 교류 회복을 위한 정례 포럼 개최와 협력체계 복원의 필요성에 의견을 같이했다. 또 ▲2019년 시범 운항된 ‘포항–블라디보스토크 국제크루즈’ 노선의 정기화 ▲영일만항을 통한 자동차 부품 수출 재개 등 구체적 협력 과제도 제안됐다.
지노비예프 대사는 “포항은 러시아 극동지역과 동해안을 잇는 전략적 거점으로 잠재력이 크다”며 “특히 해운·물류 분야에서 협력 가능성이 높아 앞으로 다양한 분야에서 교류 확대를 위해 적극 협력하겠다”고 밝혔다.
이 시장은 “오는 11월 개최하는 북극항로 포럼에 러시아 정부와 민간 전문가들이 참여해 실질적인 협력 방안을 논의하길 기대한다”며 “지속적인 소통으로 양국 지방정부 간 신뢰를 회복하고 협력 관계 복원을 위해 외교적 노력을 이어가겠다”고 말했다.
한편 포항시는 블라디보스토크, 핫산자치군, 하바롭스크, 페트로파블롭스크-캄차츠키시 등 러시아 극동지역과 교류를 이어오고 있으며, 북극항로 시대에 대비해 항만·물류·에너지 분야 협력을 강화하고 있다.

Mayor Lee stated, "I look forward to the participation of Russian government and private sector experts in the Northern Sea Route Forum to be held in November to discuss practical cooperation measures. We will continue diplomatic efforts to restore trust and cooperative relations between local governments in both countries through continued communication."
Meanwhile, Pohang City maintains exchanges with Russian Far East regions, including Vladivostok, Khasan Autonomous Okrug, Khabarovsk, and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. In preparation for the era of the Northern Sea Route, Pohang City is strengthening cooperation in ports, logistics, and energy.
