이재명 대통령이 23일(현지시간) "한·일 관계 발전이 한·미·일 협력 강화로 이어지는 선순환을 만들어가기로 했다"고 밝혔다.
이 대통령은 이날 오후 도쿄 총리 관저에서 이시바 시게루 일본 총리와 한·일 정상회담을 마친 후 공동언론발표에서 "급변하는 국제 정세 속에서 흔들림 없는 한·일-한·미·일 협력이 뭣보다 중요하다는 점에 인식을 같이 했다"며 이같이 전했다.
그러면서 "취임 이후 한·일이 앞마당을 함께 쓰는 이웃이자 평화·번영을 위해 긴밀하게 협력해야 하는 떼려야 뗄 수 없는 동반자란 점을 강조해왔다"며 "양국은 사회·문화·환경 등 다양한 분야에서 서로에 유익하고 도움 되는 방향으로 협력할 수 있는 최적 파트너"라고 했다.
또 "경제 분야에서 수소·인공지능 등 미래 산업에서 시너지를 발휘할 수 있는 협력 방향에 대해 논의했다"며 "사회 분야에서 정책경험을 공유하며 해결 방안을 함께 모색하기 위해 당국 간 협의체를 출범시키기로 했다"고 밝혔다.
이어 "1200만 교류시대를 맞아 한·일 청년들이 서로 문화를 체험하고 이해하는 기회를 넓히기 위해 워킹홀리데이 참여 횟수를 확대키로 합의했다"며 "오는 10월 한국 경주에서 열리는 APEC 정상회의와 일본이 의장국인 한·일·중 정상회의의 성공적 개최를 위해 긴밀히 협력해 나가기로 했다"고 덧붙였다.
이시바 총리는 "북의 완전 비핵화를 위해 일·미·한 3국 간 긴밀히 공조해 대응해 나가는 것을 다시 한번 확인했다"며 "양국을 둘러싼 전략 환경이 어려워지는 가운데 양국 관계 그리고 일·미·한 3국 공조 중요성은 더해지고 있다"고 했다.
이어 "셔틀외교가 시작된 걸 환영한다"며 "이웃 나라이기에 어려운 문제도 존재하지만 일관된 정책을 취해 나갈 것"이라고 했다.
