군에 따르면 올해 관내 해수욕장은 지난달 18일부터 38일간 개장해 약 12만9,000명의 피서객이 다녀갔으며, 단 한 건의 안전사고도 발생하지 않아 성공적인 운영 성과를 거뒀다.
이 같은 성과는 군과 운영단체가 개장 전부터 안전관리계획을 체계적으로 수립하고, 울진해경서·영덕경찰서·영덕소방서 등 관계기관과 긴밀히 협력한 결과라는 평가다. 특히 해수욕장 종합상황실 운영, 63명의 수상인명구조요원 배치, 인명구조선 등 구조장비 활용으로 신속한 대응체계를 구축했다.

한편, 군은 무더위가 이어지는 가운데 비공식 해수욕 활동이 지속될 것으로 보고, 폐장 이후인 오는 31일까지 21명의 안전관리요원을 추가 배치해 안전 공백을 최소화할 계획이다.
