인천시에 따르면, 캠프마켓(신촌공원)은 과거 일본육군 조병창이 위치했던 곳으로 전쟁군수물자 생산 기지로 활용되었다.
1986년 공원 부지로 결정되었으나 미군 주둔으로 인해 오랫동안 공원으로 조성되지 못한 채 도심 속 단절 공간으로 남아 있었다.

또한, 인천시가 27일부터 9월 10일까지 올해 2월부터 추진 중인 ‘경인아라뱃길 활성화 기본계획 수립 용역’의 일환으로 주민과 이용객에게 2차 설문조사를 실시한다고 밝혔다.
인천시에 따르면, 6월에 실시한 1차 설문조사에 이어, 이번 2차 설문조사는 현재 조성된 시설과 용역을 통해 발굴된 신규사업에 대한 선호도와 수요를 확인해 향후 기본계획에 반영하기 위해 마련됐다.
조사 대상은 아라뱃길 주변 지역인 서구·계양구 주민과 동호회 및 이용자들이다.
