[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산지역 대학들이 올해 들어 외국인 유학생 유치에 더욱 공을 들이면서, 유학생 수가 크게 늘고 있다.
부산시는 올해 말까지 외국인 유학생 18,000명 유치를 목표로 설정했으며, 이는 전년(2024년) 13,000명 대비 약 38% 증가한 수치다
부산시는 부산글로벌시티재단을 통해 진로 및 창업 상담, 인턴십, 취업강좌, 한국어 강좌 확대, 문화체험 프로그램을 운영하고 있으며, 베트남, 일본 등에서 유학 박람회를 개최해 활발한 유학생 모집 활동을 펼치고 있다.
올해 7월 기준 전국 전체 외국인 유학생 수가 272,573명으로 사상 처음 27만 명을 돌파한 가운데, 부산지역 내 유학생 수 확대에 더욱 박차를 가하는 모습이다
이같은 추세 속에, 국립부경대는 올해 2학기 외국인 신입생 오리엔테이션을 지난 달 29일 개최했다. 이번 학기에 부경대에 입학한 외국인 신입생은 50개국 509명으로, 지난 1학기(39개국 460명)보다도 증가한 규모다
전체 유학생 규모도 눈에 띈다. 4월 기준 학부·대학원·석박사 통합과정, 교환학생, 어학연수, 복수학위 등을 포함해 63개국 1,648명의 외국인 유학생이 재학 중이다 .
부산시는 또한 반도체, 2차전지, 자동차 부품 분야 유학생에게 D‑2 학생비자 요건을 절반(통장예치금 800만 원)으로 완화해 주는 지역 특혜 비자 프로그램을 2026년까지 1,000명 쿼타로 운영 중이다.
부산 내 14개 대학이 참여하며, 인턴십 및 진로 연계 지원도 함께 제공 중이다. 이처럼 부산시는 지방소멸 위기 속에서도 청년 및 국제 유학생 유입을 통한 인재 확보에 나서고 있다.
