【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=학교법인 동국대학교 건학위원회(이사장 겸 건학위원회 위원장 돈관스님)는 2일 동국대 WISE캠퍼스 백주년기념관에서 「지역미래불자육성장학」 장학증서 수여식을 잇달아 개최했다. 오전에는 부산 숭림사(회주 진철스님), 오후에는 종상 대종사 문도회가 각각 재학생 10명씩을 선정해 장학금 100만 원을 전달했다.

먼저 오전 11시에 열린 숭림사 장학증서 수여식에는 진철스님을 비롯해 진락스님, 법행스님이 참석했다. 이어 오후 2시에 열린 종상 대종사 문도회 장학증서 수여식에는 대표 성행스님(청계사 주지), 성요스님(불국사 기획국장), 성광스님(교무국장), 성주스님(오어사 주지), 성법스님(석굴암 재무국장) 등이 함께했다.
이날 행사에는 학교 측에서도 돈관 이사장과 류완하 WISE캠퍼스 총장을 비롯해 정각원장 법천스님, 유진스님(불교문화대학 학장), 박기련 사무총장, 지정학 사무처장, 전병길 사무국장 등 관계자와 장학생들이 자리해 의미를 더했다.
돈관 이사장은 “숭림사와 종상 대종사 문도회의 귀한 보시에 깊이 감사드린다”며 “스님들의 정재가 학생들의 삶에 지침이 되기를 바란다. 장학생들이 불교종립대학인 동국대의 주인으로 성장해 달라”고 당부했다.
류완하 총장은 “장학금을 전해주기 위해 직접 경주까지 와주신 스님들께 감사드린다”며 “오늘의 인연이 학생들에게 황금과 같은 결실로 이어지고, 학교 또한 지역 발전과 건학이념 구현을 위해 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.

숭림사 회주 진철스님은 “불교 인재 양성을 위한 전법 인재불사에 동참하게 돼 영광”이라며 “학생들이 학업에 정진하고 부처님의 가르침을 실천하길 바란다”고 소감을 전했다. 종상 대종사 문도회 대표 성행스님은 “종상 대종사의 가르침은 베푸는 삶이었다”며 “후학 양성을 위해 앞으로도 스님의 뜻을 이어가겠다”고 강조했다.
한편, 「지역미래불자육성장학」은 2021년부터 동국대 건학위원회가 추진해온 장기 프로젝트로, 지역 사찰과 학생들을 이어주며 미래 불자 육성과 지역사회 공헌을 목표로 하고 있다. 이번 수여식은 116회(숭림사)와 117회(종상 대종사 문도회)로 이어졌다.

Dongguk University WISE Campus Holds Successive "Regional Future Buddhist Scholarship" Scholarship Ceremonies
The Dongguk University Foundation Committee (Chairman and Committee Chairperson Venerable Dongwan) held a series of "Regional Future Buddhist Scholarship" scholarship ceremonies at the Dongguk University WISE Campus Centennial Memorial Hall on the 2nd. The following ceremony, held at 2 p.m., featured the scholarship award ceremony for the Jongsang Daejongsa Disciples' Association, including Venerable Seonghaeng (Abbot of Cheonggyesa Temple), Venerable Seongyo (Director of Planning at Bulguksa Temple), Venerable Seonggwang (Director of Academic Affairs), Venerable Seongju (Abbot of Oeosa Temple), and Venerable Seongbeop (Director of Finance at Seokguram Grotto).
The event was also attended by university officials, including Chairman Don-kwan, WISE Campus President Ryu Wan-ha, Jeonggakwon Director Venerable Beopcheon, Venerable Yujin (Dean of the College of Buddhist Culture), Secretary-General Park Ki-ryeon, Director of the Office of the President Ji Jeong-hak, and Secretary-General Jeon Byeong-gil.
Chairman Don-kwan expressed his deep gratitude, saying, "I am deeply grateful to Sungnimsa Temple and the Jongsang Daejongsa Disciples' Association for their generous donations. I hope the monks' contributions will serve as a guide for the students' lives. I hope the scholarship recipients will grow into leaders of Dongguk University, a Buddhist university."
President Ryu Wan-ha expressed his gratitude, saying, "I am grateful to the monks who came all the way to Gyeongju to personally present the scholarships. I hope that this connection will bear fruitful fruit for the students, and that the school will do its best to contribute to the development of the region and to the realization of its founding principles."
Ven. Jincheol, the head monk of Sungnimsa Temple, expressed his gratitude, saying, "It is an honor to participate in the Buddhist mission to cultivate Buddhist talent. I hope the students will dedicate themselves to their studies and practice the Buddha's teachings." Ven. Seonghaeng, head of the discipleship association of Ven. Jongsang, emphasized, "Ven. Jongsang's teachings were about a life of giving. We will continue to carry on his legacy in nurturing future generations."
Meanwhile, the "Regional Future Buddhist Scholarship" is a long-term project initiated by the Dongguk University Foundation Committee since 2021. It connects local temples with students, fostering future Buddhists, and contributing to the local community. This award ceremony was held as the 116th (Sunglimsa) and 117th (Jongsang Daejongsa Disciples Association).
