【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=한국원자력환경공단(이사장 조성돈)은 4일 서울 금천구 한국에너지정보문화재단(KEIA, 대표이사 이주수) 본사 회의실에서 고준위 방사성폐기물에 대한 올바른 정보 제공과 대국민 인식 제고를 위한 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다.

이번 협약을 통해 양 기관은 각자가 보유한 지식과 정보, 네트워크를 신속하고 원활하게 공유하며 국민 이해도를 높이고 지역사회와의 신뢰를 강화하는 데 협력할 예정이다.
협약에는 ▲대국민 및 지역주민 대상 홍보·소통 활동 ▲소통용 정보 콘텐츠 개발 및 확산 ▲국내외 동향 등 정보·자료 공유 ▲소통 분야 전문가 양성 및 교육자료 개발 ▲관련 사업 위탁·수행 등 상호 협력 확대 ▲대국민 이해도와 지역 수용성 제고에 필요한 기타 사항 등 총 6개 협력 분야가 포함됐다.
조성돈 한국원자력환경공단 이사장은 “고준위 방사성폐기물 관리의 첫걸음은 국민 이해도 제고와 안전에 대한 신뢰 확보”라며 “이번 협력을 계기로 지역사회와의 현장 소통을 확대하고 주민 신뢰를 높이는 실질적 활동을 이어가겠다”고 강조했다.
이주수 한국에너지정보문화재단 대표이사도 “고준위 방사성폐기물 관리는 국민 누구나 궁금해하고 우려하는 사안”이라며 “재단은 객관적 근거에 기반한 설명과 책임 있는 정보 제공으로 불필요한 불안과 오해를 줄이고, 국민이 필요한 순간에 필요한 정보를 접할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.

KORIA (Chairman Cho Sung-don) and Korea Energy Information Foundation (KEF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the 4th at the Korea Energy Information Foundation (KEIA, CEO Lee Ju-soo) headquarters conference room in Geumcheon-gu, Seoul, to provide accurate information and raise public awareness about high-level radioactive waste.
Through this agreement, both organizations will collaborate to quickly and seamlessly share their respective knowledge, information, and networks, thereby increasing public understanding and strengthening trust with local communities.
The agreement covers six areas of cooperation: ▲ public relations and communication activities targeting the public and local residents; ▲ development and dissemination of communication information content; ▲ sharing information and data, including domestic and international trends; ▲ training communication experts and developing educational materials; ▲ expanding mutual cooperation, including the commissioning and implementation of related projects; and ▲ other matters necessary to enhance public understanding and local acceptance.
Cho Sung-don, Chairman of the Korea Radioactive Waste Agency (KREAR), emphasized, "The first step in managing high-level radioactive waste is to increase public understanding and secure trust in safety. We will use this collaboration as an opportunity to expand on-site communication with local communities and continue practical activities to build public trust."
Lee Joo-soo, CEO of the Korea Energy Information and Culture Foundation, added, "Management of high-level radioactive waste is a matter of great interest and concern to everyone. The foundation will do its utmost to reduce unnecessary anxiety and misunderstanding by providing objective, evidence-based explanations and responsible information, and ensure the public has access to the information they need when they need it."
