도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 7일(현지시간) "조지아주 현대 배터리 공장에 대한 이민 단속 작전 이후 나는 미국에 투자하고 있는 모든 외국 기업들에 우리나라 이민법을 존중해줄 것을 촉구한다"고 밝혔다.
미 'CNN' 영국 '로이터 통신' 등에 따르면 트럼프 대통령은 이날 자신의 트루스소셜을 통해 최근 미국내 한국 기업 근로자들 체포 사안 관련해 이같이 밝혔다.
그러면서 "당신들 투자를 환영히며 당신들이 훌륭한 기술적 재능을 지닌 매우 똑똑한 인재를 합법적으로 데려와 세계적 수준 제품을 생산하길 권장한다"며 "당신들이 그렇게 하도록 그것(인재 데려오는 일)을 신속·합법적으로 할 수 있도록 만들겠다"고 밝혔다.
이어 "우리가 반대급부로 요구하는 건 당신들이 미국인 노동자를 고용하고 훈련시키는 것"이라며 "우리는 함께 우리나라를 생산적으로 만드는 것뿐 아닌 그 어느 때보다 더 가까워질 수 있도록 열심히 일할 것"이라고 덧붙였다.

이어 "전문가를 불러들여 우리 국민을 훈련시켜 그들(미국인)이 직접 할 수 있도록 하는 방안을 마련해야 한다"며 "그들(한국 정부)이 말한 내용을 정확히 이해하고 있기 때문에 이를 검토해보겠다"고 덧붙였다.
앞서 지난 4일(현지시간) 미 국토안보수사국(HSI)·이민세관단속국(ICE)·마약단속국(DEA)·조지아주 순찰대 등은 조지아주 서배너 인근 브라이언 카운티 소재 현대차·LG에너지솔루션 합작 배터리 공장 건설 현장서 이민 단속 작전을 벌여 475명을 체포한 가운데 한국 국적이 대다수인 것으로 밝혀졌다.
