브레이크뉴스 최애리 기자= 대한민국 최초의 싱글몰트 위스키 ‘기원(Ki One)’이 세계 최고 권위의 국제 주류 품평 대회인 IWSC(International Wine & Spirit Competition) 2025에서 세계 위스키 부문 대상(Worldwide Whisky Trophy)을 수상했다.
기원 위스키 측은 9일 “이번 수상은 증류소 설립 5년 만의 성과이자, 세계 싱글몰트 역사상 가장 짧은 시간에 정상에 오른 브랜드로 기록됐다”며 “한국 최초의 위스키가 신흥 시장을 넘어 세계 최고 수준의 경쟁력을 입증한 것”이라고 밝혔다.
1969년 영국에서 출범한 IWSC는 매년 4,000여 종 이상의 주류가 출품되는 세계 최고 권위의 대회다. 200여 명의 전문가가 블라인드 테이스팅과 과학적 분석을 병행해 심사하며, 각 부문별 단 하나의 최고 제품에만 트로피를 수여한다.
이번 대회에서 기원의 대표 제품 ‘기원 유니콘(Unicorn)’은 “잊을 수 없는 경험”이라는 극찬과 함께 스카치·아이리시·버번을 제외한 전 세계 위스키 가운데 최고 제품으로 선정됐다. 또한 미국 샌프란시스코 세계주류경연대회(SFWSC) 2025에서도 심사위원 전원 만장일치로 더블 골드(Double Gold)를 수상하며 명성을 더했다.

한편, 기원 위스키는 2020년 경기도 남양주에서 증류를 시작한 한국 최초 싱글몰트 위스키다. 스코틀랜드 출신 마스터 디스틸러와 한국 장인들이 함께 전통 스카치 방식을 적용해 생산하고 있으며, 남양주의 깨끗한 수원과 뚜렷한 사계절 기후 차이를 바탕으로 독창적 풍미를 구현하고 있다. 현재까지 50회가 넘는 국제 대회에서 수상했으며, 2025년에는 ‘올해의 크래프트 증류소’ 2위를 기록하는 등 세계적 주목을 받고 있다.

Kiwon Whisky Wins World's Best Whisky Trophy
Ki One, Korea's first single malt whisky, has won the Worldwide Whisky Trophy at the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) 2025, the world's most prestigious international spirits competition.
