브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 미국 이민세관단속국(ICE)에 의해 구금된 한국인들이 10일(현지시간) 석방 후 자진출국하는 방향으로 협의가 진행 중이다.
외교 소식통에 따르면 한국 정부가 파견한 신속대응팀이 조지아주 포크스턴 ICE 구금시설에 수용된 한국인들의 귀국 절차를 지원하고 있다.
정부는 한국인들을 현지에서 사법처리하지 않는 대신 석방 직후 자진출국하는 조건으로 미국 당국과 협의를 진행 중이다.
이에 따라 구금된 한국인들은 이르면 이날 오후 애틀랜타 국제공항에서 대한항공 전세기를 탑승할 것으로 전해졌다. 이륙 시각은 현지시간 오후 2시 30분 전후로 검토되고 있으며, 전세기는 한국 시각으로 11일 오후 인천국제공항에 도착할 것으로 예상된다.
구금시설에서 애틀랜타 공항까지는 약 428㎞ 떨어져 있으며 차량 이동으로 약 4시간 30분이 소요된다.
조기중 주미대사관 총영사는 9일 포크스턴 구금시설을 방문한 뒤 “행정적·기술적 사안을 미국 측과 협의하고 있으며, 우리 국민들이 최대한 빠른 시간 내에 귀국할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
