도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 9일(현지시간) EU(유럽연합)에 '중국·인도 수입품에 대해 최대 100% 관세를 부과할 것'을 주문했다.
영국 'FT(파이낸셜타임스) 등에 따르면 트럼프 대통령은 이날 워싱턴 DC에서 열린 미·EU 고위급 화상회의에서 이같이 언급했다. 이 자리는 우크라이나 전쟁 종식을 위해 러시아에 대한 경제적 압박 수위를 높이는 공동 대응 방안 논의 차원에서 마련됐다.
트럼프 대통령은 “우리는 당장 실행할 준비가 돼 있다”며 “유럽 파트너들이 동참할 경우에만 이 조치를 취할 것”이라고 밝혔다.

EU 대표단은 이번 주 워싱턴 DC를 방문해 미 측과 추가 공동 조치를 논의하고 있는 가운데 러·우크라 전쟁 종식·협상 개시를 위한 압박 수위를 높이고 있는 상황이다.
현재 EU는 19번째 대러 제재 패키지를 논의 중인 가운데 러시아는 이미 미·유럽의 강력 제재를 받고 있으나 중·제3국을 통해 제한 품목을 조달하고, 중·인도 등에서 원유·가스 새 구매처를 확보하면서 제재 효과를 일정 부분 상쇄해왔다.
